Wat's that?

I have a huge folder of verbatim copy of internet pages which were done with "wget -r -l 1 -p foo".

Meta data, photo, music, video.

Web certainly will have to be processed into the index. How big is the database for Windows search?

I see now.

How can I learn the databse size? It indexed 1 400 000 files when I stopped it.

I also see no way of unchecking "content indexing" for all file types, did Microsoft doom me for tons of clicking?

And the file search is dull - I cannot mention separately the filename fragment and contents fragment, I cannot tell what date should be used for search - "access", "modify" or "create" date. I almost miss Win XP but well, Total Commander is fine.

Thanks! I think that this resouce hog was the only recent case which is somehow connected to the databases. As for search, I am doing it fairly rare and I am satisfied with complete directory traversal which Total Commander does.

Are we talking at cross purposes?

In C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Search\Data\Applications\Windows there is a file called Windows.edb. That is the search database. Mine is 4.13GB.

If I want to edit a big file WordPad and hexeditor do a good job for me.

Notepad++ is also nice.

Sounds as though it must have been trying to build the index exclusively in memory. As you terminated it, it must have never committed the work.

You could try leaving it running over night of you were desperate for it back. I seldom if ever use it though. It is dreadful for searching for files, it's designed to search for content. NT4 was the last version capable of properly searching for file names so I sick to searching via command.
