After a few years of not-using it, I got my MP790 back from storage. It has base memory enhanced to 48 MB
(turns out you can install memory module from MP780 and it will add an extra 16MB
)
)
), and I just replaced old 18650 cells with working ones. So far, so good.
Now, my basic idea of using it is to SSH into my home server, and/or edit some short documents for upload. Both those things require network.
Network = wifi nowadays.
I have Cisco Aironet 352 from old days with MP, and it used to work fine. Problem is: MP lost all memory, and drivers with it.
As far as I can tell, those drivers are distributed in a form that requires connecting MP to Windows. For one, I don't have Windows younger than 7 available, nor hardware that would support it. So:
Question 1: how to extract drivers so that I can install them directly on the HPC?
The other problem: I had just one, old CF card reader, and it worked for a while now, but today I found it broke :/ Windows doesn't recognize it anymore. I'm not keen on buying a new one, since it's the only use I would have for it.
Question 2: how can I transfer files to HPC when all I got
(before wifi works
) is RS232 cable?
When those 2 issues are solved: is there any free SSH client for HPC?
And question 4: whatever happened to Rich Hawley's MP page? Rich, if you read this: drop me a line if you need some free hosting for it. I missed your photos sorely when disassembling the battery pack.
