Hi,
I have connected a DVD drive to a computer running Windows CE 5.0. I'm able to browse through the folders on the DVD (AUDIO_TS, VIDEO_TS. . . ) but I'm unable to play the DVD as an actual video, which would be quite cool.
Does anybody know of any software to play DVDs on Windows CE? Thanks in advance!

Not unless someone can pull it from one of those CE-based car DVD players.

You might want to make it yourself.

Check this Microsoft site out.

https://msdn.microsoft.com/ja-jp/library/aa451269.aspx

Also according to this site, http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-2984270/dvd-player-windows... VLC Player works.

I've compiled DVDPlay and DVDSample now, but when I double click DVDPlay nothing happens, and DVDSample complains about missing components. Anybody know how to fix that?

According to that site, SwizzleDude already asked - and VLC Player is nowhere to be found.

CEGeek, those CE car radios are hybrids.

The radios have separate circuit boards in them. One is for your standard ARM based CE handheld, the other is for the video connections.

All the CE part does is act like a menu program and control the GPS. On the CE side you have the standard group of basic image viewers, AVI/MPeg players, ebook reader, etc. Most of them run the CE version of iGo 8 GPS software. The FM radio is also CE controlled. Funny that most of these don't have AM radios in them. Also the one I installed had CE bluetooth as well.

The non-CE side is the DVD player, which on some is actually a DVD recorder as well. I noticed on the one I played with that it had a jack on the back side for AV in, and you could record the image to a memory card, hence you could use it for a backup camera, or use it for a trip recorder.

But I guess what I am saying is the DVD rendering is not part of the CE coding.

I suggest ripping the DVD on a PC, with Handbrake or whatever software you'd prefer, and copy the files to the netbook. TCPMP works for playback.

Well, it's not a netbook, it's a satellite receiver on which I've disabled the startuo of the default interface. I've made a youtube video of it and can send you the link if you want.
Of course I could rip the DVDs, but it would be way better just to slap it in and play it

TCPMP will sometimes play the MPEG2 videos but no menus. I couldn't find a 3rd party CE DVD player anywhere. There used to be some ones built for OEMs on the Windowsfordevices.com website but I dunno if they still sell them. Android has several DVD players now, though. Also, I don't think dvdsample.exe works without a properly installed hardware decoder but I could be wrong.

Found it for you guys. Ok that does not look like that. However, you may still try building specific versions with this toolchain (Linux is needed).

It's ARM - and the OS identifier says CE 3.0(!).
