I think it will make the future good for developers, as they can target more devices.

Now, we will have all of following:
- OS for running UWP programs only
- OS for running Win32 programs only
- OS for running both Win32 and UWP programs

- OS for running both Win32 and UWP programs on x86 only
- OS for runnnig both Win32 and UWP programs on ARM only

However, I cannot see how this makes future of software better in any way.

I crossed some... Except 2

There is still no word on an Arm version of regular win10.
UWP runs on all windows 10 (as long as you build for the CPU type)... Hence the U

1) The OP subject (mentioned article says it could have a switch though).
2) Windows Embedded
3) Windows Phone
4) Desktop Windows
5) Windows RT

I did not make any mistake.

Does not make MS' OS spectrum less amusing.

Well if you count OSes on completely different types of devices (embedded and phone aren't the same as PC) then it is no different than other companies or groups that also customize their OSes (or create entirely separate ones) based on the different requirements of each type of devices.

It is necessary and more competitive that way.

In any case this does not make the future worse nor do I find that amusing.

Developers need to customize their software applications according to their target devices. That will never change. However we do want this process of developing software and customizing for different platforms to be as efficient and easy as possible. That's why we have platforms such as Java and UWP.
