Hey all!

I thought maybe this could be an interesting topic.

I acquired a 900 that was for parts, in a sorry state, fixable, but ugly.

I usually like to keep things as they were, but for this as it was already badly restored, I thought I'd jazz it up.

The 900 has a loose (bad?) ribbon cable for the keyboard, the screen and digitizer work, though.

Someone also badly spray painted it with bad cheap spray paint. So my plan is to get it functioning well again, and do a nice looking custom paint on it. Not sure what design/colours yet, but it will be a nice glossy smooth coat.

Session 1
So I began stripping the spray paint, and it came off mostly nice for the initial pass, now time to take it apart and finish cleaning up the case.
I use Citristrip as it is safer, non-caustic, and derived from citrus extract. It is the gentlest stripping agent I know of. So perfect for this case.

After the first session I got nearly all the paint, just need to remove the guts and clean up the case.

It's a shame it isn't smooth as you might try skinning it, like D-Brand do.

What paint will you use?

Nope… but you know me… I've repainted many a Mobilepro… and love custom painted devices…remember this page from way back when? Eventually ended up with about 15 spectacular custom paint jobs…

I actually really like the silver removed, leaving it all a nice matte gray. I remember the blue and gold one Rich, definitely spectacular!

Oh very thanks for the encouragement guys.

I double checked the unit still functions, about 1/2 the keys on the keyboard works as well as the digitizer and all that. So not sure if the keyboard rest of the keys is the ribbon cable loose or the multiplexer going bad.

Any tips from you old pros that might be useful on painting and such?

Those keyboard ribbons rarely come loose… they are a pain in the rump to seat well however.

C:Amie… I believe we already have plenty of posts on painting…

It seems to match your avatar!

Could you fine sand or fill the scratches out of it maybe and give it a second coat?
