Hello everyone! I hope there are still some people around reading my post. I am trying to find puppy Linux that was made available for Jornada 720 specifically. I couldn't find any website that has links to puppy. However, I found one interesting link on eBay: puppy linux lupu 528 I searched forums, archives but couldn't find any further information. The description mentions lots of apps which I really would like to use on my Jornada 720. Moreover, I am learning Python and Jornada 720 is a very portable and fun for that. Is there a way to find a working puppy Linux for Jornada 720? Other alternative Linux distro suggestions are welcome, but YouTube videos on Jlime shows it is very slow. I hope Puppy Linux is slightly better than Jlime (Mongo). Thanks

By the way, that eBay link was listed in 2014 and product owner is no longer active.

Thanks for the info.

He seems to be active as a buyer, not seller.
I see some positive feedback left for him on the Puppy Linux Bootable ISO.

From eBay:

Is it possible for us to find that Linux distribution for Jornada 720? I could not find it anywhere. Or is it possible to contact that seller? Thanks!

Well, why don't you try contacting the seller?

I also found this attempt online:

Thank you! These are great resources! I will check them all. It is so unfortunate that original Jlime developers stopped supporting old devices like Jornada 720. It would have been great to see Linux 4.7 on these devices again.

Glad to see you liked them.

I will try to make a Jornada 720 resource page soon.
Maybe I will buy a Jornada 720, if I can.

see you around.

Yes, I was able to run kernel 2.4.31-j720-5 with OPIE and it works great on Jornada 720. This OPIE was made specifically for Jornada's 200MHz process in mind. It works pretty fast, better than winCE. I downloaded the mongo repository from this website and setup an offline repository for ipkg copying files to CF card. I am experimenting those apps now.
@stingraze, I have a question. So, I contacted both the seller and Linux 4.7 developer. The seller said he no longer had any files for Jornada but mentioned he used Familiar Linux and some modified shell to run most of the software mentioned in the eBay listing.
Linux 4.7 port developer has shared with me his codes and all the patches that he was able to work on. The source codes are for the kernel and 'ARMv5 specific BX instruction simulation for ARMv4' patch which opens doors for modern Linux distros on Jornada 720.
Now my question is, where I should start? I mean I know some coding and use Linux, but how do I port or modify Linux to run on Jornada 720? Is there any book or tutorials that I can read to build my own system? Your guidance would be very helpful for me to start my journey!

Hi, I use Linux time to time for development (usually Ubuntu 16.04) but I don't have experience for building my own Linux from scratch. But:

Here's some other sites I found that may be of help:

http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/
https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/87011/how-to-easily-build-y...

This should come in handy:

Building Embedded Linux Full Tutorial for ARM

Some things that are too technical to me:
http://www.nic.funet.fi/pub/Linux/PEOPLE/Linus/v2.4/patch-html/patc...

but I did find this part:
"+CONFIG_SA1100_JORNADA720
+ Say Y here if you want to build a kernel for the HP Jornada 720"

How to configure the Linux kernel/arch/arm/mach-sa1100
Option: SA1100_ASSABET
Kernel Versions: 2.6.15.6 ... (newer!)

might be useful:

Running Linux on HP Jornada 720 (from 2005)

that's for it for now, but will be running my crawler to gather more information.

Great! 'Linux from scratch' is exactly what I am looking for. These are very informative links. Now I can start experimenting with my Jornada and Linux. Thanks!
