| Have you tried a hard reset? You will lose all data on the device that's not part of the operating system. The J820 will start and run fine without either battery - you must of course save your data externally.

| Just a thought, why don't you upconvert from 5V -> whatever the J820 battery voltage, with correct amerage. That way, it will be a safety measure. Rebuilding cells are very dangerous if you don't know what you are doing.

| I recently managed to acquire a Jornada 820 in mint condition with a working (!) battery. Keeping it plugged in 24/7 atm to make sure it never falls under the threshold voltage, that happened with my first one sadly. My plan is to hook up my logic analyzer and sniff around a bit and documenting it.
Ideally then it would be possible to build a replacement battery that will be recognized by the 820, but the most important thing would be having the protocol preserved. |

Excited to hear this. offer one piece of advice also... Mine was plugged in for about 20 years almost continuously and the battery did die out and now receive the dreaded no main battery detected error message in windows ce. In short, make haste please |

That reminds me of me making a graph of Sigmarion 3 battery discharge. (x and y inverted, lol ) long time ago, circa 2007. ) |

| One tip: Li-ion batteries like to be discharged too.
If it holds charge too much it gets "pregnant" as we say here in Japan.
There is a trustworthy re-celler here in Japan that I've always wanted to use to recell my Li-ion batteries... haha |

That is actually not correct. You should not discharge Lithium-Ion. You are correct that you should avoid over charging it as they swell.
Keep the level between 50% and 80% and avoid charging all the way to top top or discharging all the way also.

| The problem is, how would I be able to keep it at a specific level.. I have about 20 handhelds that have Li-Ion batteries, atm they're all connected to chargers.
One idea I toyed with is putting an automated power plug there that turns on for a day every 2 weeks or so, but the problem is that some of my handhelds have the habit of turning on when charging and then not going back to standby.. :/ That's a problem as I'm not home for extended periods of time.

| Don't. Charge them to 50% and disconnect them into storage. |

I meant not discharge it fully, but discharge it once in a while (as in use it ).
