So, I was in Akihabara today. To those who don't know where that is, it is a district in the A.D. 1940's where they sold tube radios and later on, the transistor radios.

I visited the world famous stores there...
One of which is Akizuki Denshi.
If I am not wrong, for now they accept only cash (It was so around 2017).

I bought 5 ICs for 30JPY each, and it included tax.

I am interested in these terminals these days:

On a side-note, I like to visit Akihabara because it is the "Mecca" of all things electronics. I personally don't watch anime / animation so much, but I guess I will have to see it to see what the rest of the world is up to and influenced by.

Japan is an interesting country, but you will have to be careful in certain districts, which is very dangerous.
I guess that is same in all countries though.

Being always extra careful and alert is a safety precaution when traveling or even strolling in the streets.

Anyways, there's an interesting thing I've discovered. The things that are lying cheap in Japan catches a lot of attention on eBay and is able to get a lot of money.

Strange...

haha.

Until next time,
-stingraze

P.S.
This Gamebuino is also interesting... haha

I went into a RadioShack (store) in San Francisco in 2011.
I heard they closed down but they revived or something?

I have this "ton" of parts I got from a Make faire. (O'reilly related)

Here you go, Rich: http://www.radioshackcatalogs.com/

Sadly, I suspect your Free Battery Club card is probably expired.

I don't know about the U.S., but here in Canada the Radio Shack stores became "The Source." They're just tech stores like small Best Buys though. There aren't many electronics components / soldering irons / etc. left in them anymore.

What makes it dangerous Stingraze?

I went in a RS in LA in... 1997. They had some interesting kit project stuff that we didn't see over here. Dixons used to resell some RS stuff here in the 90's. The UK equiv. was Maplin, which finally went under in the summer. Annoying when you needed an emergency /something/. That was the problem though, you had an emergency need once a year, the rest of the time you online ordered it or drove to RadioSpares. Looks like they're trying to bring Maplin back in an online only format though https://www.maplin.co.uk/

That's the trend, of course. Montgomery Ward went that way here in the US years ago.

And Sears too CEGeek. My BIL worked for them for over 45 years. When he got out he sold his Sears stock for $185/share. Now it's going for 50 cents a share.

Mobi...love the old catalogs...especially the early '70s issues back when I was really into CB radios...the memories...

Was always an electronics geek, fixing friend's TVs or stereos.

Now if I want a project box it comes from eBay. And where does one order an FET these days or a precision resistor?

What makes Akihabara dangerous is that there are many undercover agents from different countries, and some stores are tied with smuggling electronics to "marked" states. That's a fact, not my imagination or anything.

Also, some things are "gray" zone stuff...

I was referring to converting to a fully Web-based operation, Rich, like C:Amie was talking about with Maplin:

https://www.wards.com/

Sears is still a presence in physical malls, though that may not last long.

What that makes foreign agents dangerous for you? Will they abduct you and perform extraordinary rendition for buying the wrong capacitors?

lol.

Something like that.

It is considered an explosive... hehe

Say, you have a 10,000 F Capacitor and put it on a electric-plug... I don't want anyone to do this... but anyways.
With great knowledge comes great responsibility.
