| So a while ago I managed to snatch this on eBay for really cheap!
And it was near mint too! some of the things were sealed even, for example the RAM expansion. The printer cable is unused as well!
The best thing, the battery still worked! The extended battery sadly did not. (For anyone curious, the extended battery has the same dimensions as the regular one, just 2 more cells inside )
The bad news was that the upper half of the screen has stripes, hinting at a faulty flex cable I assume. It worked fine when I turned it on, after a while it broke though.
Luckily I still have another fully working one plus another German model with broken hinge that works fine otherwise.

| I like using my Handhelds rather than displaying them! Actually I wrote quite a bit of my Master's thesis on a Jornada 820 just because. It's a good distraction-free writing machine with a nice keyboard |

| Man, jealous! Been wanting to get my hands on one of these. And I'm right there with you, every handheld I have gets used in one shape or another. Might be long times between the uses, but they do get used! Congrats on the fantastic haul.

If you listen very carefully, you can hear the museum curation types grinding away at their teeth now
You're a brave man (or a better speller ). I can't survive without spell check. |

| I noticed on the package that is says a "Microsoft Java VM" is on the CD. I am intrigued and wonder if anyone owns that CD? I'm amazed I never heard that Microsoft made a Java VM for Windows CE. I only know they made their own for Windows 9x |

They didn't. It's probably part of the Windows Pre-requisistes installer as MSJVM was bundled with MSIE until they lost in court to Sun in ~2004 and had to pull it. HP made their own JVM for CE though. |

I only know they made their own for Windows 9x Yes, I have one, or a couple, some where in the 'junk' pile. I've got an old Win 98 laptop that was working the last time I plugged it up. I may drag it out and see what the CD looks like. I notice the CD says "Designed for" Win NT or Win 98. While I'm at it I may set-up Win CE Services on my Panasonic CF 01 running Win 95. Assuming 'Dog' doesn't freeze me out on this morning's walk. Edited by Mjolnir 2018-11-28 3:46 PM

| It clearly says on the package that it's a Microsoft Java VM for Windows CE. I am really intrigued about this now, I never even heard of this. (Capture.JPG) Attachments ---------------- Capture.JPG (55KB - 0 downloads) |

| The Jetcet printer drivers are cool! Always enjoyed printing directly to my printer from my HPC.
I'm thinking the Java is only the runtime engine. The "Outside In" was a Java application that let you read old desktop Word .doc files with embedded graphics on your HPC.
But I don't know really…just guessing…but Inso was big into Java. |
