I signed up for HPC:Factor by asking an administrator, as I picked up an HP 660lx a few weeks ago, and am enjoying poking at HPC hardware and software. I've had Pocket PCs for years (and collect vintage/retro handhelds in general) but I've never had an HPC until recently, despite wanting one for a while. With a WaveLan, it's pretty fun, even if the SSH clients for 2.11 are all not very good

2.11? So you have the upgraded 660LX? They've always been hard to find. Can we see pics?

Welcome. I'll be honest in that I wasn't sure if you were trolling me. So I'm pleased to see that you weren't

Our Administrator has been a little paranoid lately - for good reason though.

All I'll say is that you weren't complaining when I gave out free tin foil hats at the last staff meeting

I didn't know 660LXes with 2.11 were rare. It looks like the 660LXes I see in pictures, but you can see it here: https://cloud.snacki.ca/s/Bk4jmyFczjobJMP https://cloud.snacki.ca/s/XYtracwF8YbproZ...

Wish I had the serial cable for it, so I could use non-IR ActiveSync/use it as a serial terminal.

I had a small stash of stuff that worked on HPC from having PPCs - neat to see stuff ranging from the Terminal Server client to Pocket Scheme all running fine!

I grabbed the embedded C++/VB 3.0 from elsewhere (downloads didn't seem to work, is that known?) - VB works, but it's super crumbly because it's actually VBScript; didn't expect that! C++ works like I expected it; I tried porting a small Win16 demo program and it actually runs (in the "emulator" at least - that's an uh, weird simulator) but I couldn't get CommandBar menus working. I'll have to poke it later and see why. Will have to try .NET out.

Yeah the 660lx was uncommon to begin with
https://www.hpcfactor.com/hardware/devices/compare.asp?d=56&d=58&d=6...

Let alone to find one with a 2.11 chip in it.

In saying that, Insurgent had one if I recall correctly

The download issue on Saturday was reported in the HPC:Factor Discussion forum. It was fixed as soon as I saw it. Please let us know if you see issues as I've been re-jigging the back-end recently and it's caused some regression anomalies.

If you come up with any bin or sources that you want to release, we're happy to home them in the SCL.

If you've any interest in writing anything to help others get started with H/PC dev, we're always keen!

Happy coding.

Huh, I didn't know they were rare. Surprisingly, the battery still lasts for quite a while - usually even merely decade old batteries have totally given up, but this is tolerable if I had to depend on it. It definitely goes down quite a bit if you have the WaveLan plugged in though.

Relative to the 620lx, there were far fewer 660lx's in circulation. The 620lx was more common on the international space. It's the same with the 690 to the 680. The 680 was more common.
