ReCAPTCHA

A quick notice to everyone that I have replaced my (very) legacy code verification system (from 2005) with Google ReCAPTCHA.

You will now have to tick the "I am not a robot" check box on forum log-in, (twice) during registration and if you are on a guest-post board.

It is working fine in my testing, but if you are having problems - and can't log on to tell me. Please email the webmaster via the contact link at the bottom of any page.

I appreciate that this will be a major problem for the tiny number of users who are trying to log-in from CE, however Emir Tüzül's code which generated the Bitmaps has been causing a lot of other faults for other users. In looking at the problem, it was going to need to be completely re-written. Something that, on reflection, I was not prepared to do.

If you think it's a major problem, please post your thoughts here and if there is a consensus that this isn't acceptable because of the loss of CE log-in, I'll give it some thought.

Otherwise, as with a lot of other recent changes. The best way to keep the site secure is the best way to keep it on-line.

I feel it's good to know that the Google ReCAPTCHA has been placed in.
It is working very well on my system (Macbook Pro, 2017) + Firefox 66.

Just logged in - no problem.

I just logged in too. That's a nice change.

I had a look at the stats. Between 1st Feb 2019 and today, there have been precisely 3 page loads from Windows CE.

... seems that I was unnecessarily worried!
