Is there any update about purchasing or registering or exemptionwaring PocketDos? If it is still available to get a full version legally I'll do it in a heartbeat.

With Dos and Debian on top of WinCE, my Jornada 720 can still be pretty awesome today.

They have never responded to any email on the subject. Feel free to try and get in touch and send them my way.

The only official line I ever got out of them was that they weren't closing down... and well...

Thanks for clarifying the situation.

I have sent a message to the developer both via email and reddit. Wish a response will come soon...

Kind of tangent, but there's a software called XT-CE, which according to this Japanese site emulates the hardware and can run DOS among with other OS. (80186 emulator)

Some more Japanese info:

XT-CE in SCL:

Thanks, stingraze for the suggestion. Not sure if the 80186 emulator mode is up to the job when running regular DOS programs.

Update 1: It seems http://www.xt-ce.com/ not longer hosts the old dos but new Qt stuff ...

Update 2:
Good news.
Just got a reply from the PocketDos developer saying that the order link has been fixed (remember to turn off Adblock or similar addons in the browser). I have just placed my order here http://www.mediator-software.com/pocketdos/order.htm [EDIT: Alternatively, use this direct link if that doesn't work: https://order.shareit.com/cart/add?vendorid=14287&PRODUCT[164077]=1 ].
In a moment I received a response asking me for System ID and Owner Name. Now waiting for the Unlock Code...

Just tracked down the status of XT-CE:
https://web.archive.org/web/20060722035133/http://www.xt-ce.com/1018...

Looks like the product was truly EOL. It seems PocketDos is the only solution left now.

EDIT: If I am not mistaken, XT-CE was actually merged into the PocketDos project later on, according to http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~sb6m-uek/mobile/720lx_11.htm (a great overview of PocketDos)

Yeah, you’re right, the page you mentioned in the edit says it was “annexed” by PocketDOS. Interesting history.

For the history buffs, XT-CE and PocketDOS are actually the same product, built from the same source code. PocketDOS was a UI/UX experiment that eventually totally eclipsed XT-CE, and so I abandoned it completely. XT-CE unlock codes can be used to unlock PocketDOS, and vice versa. It was funny (at the time) to watch people argue about which was better. There is absolutely no advantage to using XT-CE over PocketDOS (unless you prefer the more "geeky" UI). I don't remember which exact version of PocketDOS XT-CE v2.51 corresponds to. I stopped building XT-CE quite a few years before 2009 (the last time PocketDOS was built).
