CE Geek,

As I said above. If you're having problems you need to bug report it and not sit on your laurels counting on someone else to do the same.

If you have MPEG's Wodeon will work:
http://www.geocities.jp/omiokone/wodeon/indexE.htm

There is also PocketMVP on which BetaPlayer / TCPMP is based

Also WinCESoft.de's player release based on the same source again

Sorry, C:Amie. I missed that comment. I must admit that I've never contacted a software developer before; it's new terrain for me. (Believe it or not, I've been online less than three months.) But I've just remedied that by contacting the TCPMP developer with my comments. Thanx for the other links, too.

Just in case anyone else has a Nexio...

0.66c is under testing right now, which includes a native driver for the Epson graphics chip. This is pretty damn great, and improves video performance significantly over and above the WinCE GAPI.

It's available from the TCPMP test site.

For the jornada, it already uses a direct driver which optimises performance.

As for developing for the SL4, it might not be an insurmountable task... The source code is available, and if you can find information about the graphics chip and memory access, you might find that it's not beyond the realms of possibility.

The graphics chip in the XP30 is particularly poor, as the bus it uses is seriously limiting

I talked to the developer, who says that there is a bug in a setting "Use VR41xx tweaks" for MIPS devices. This setting is on by default; he suggests disabling it (Options/Settings/Advanced). I've already gone through two full resets; I'm not ready to take my chances on this. Anyone else willing to try?

He also mentions that a test version TCPMP 0.66d is in development. Here are the links:

P.S. I tried the links above myself, but could not find the 0.66d download link. (Got the "page cannot be displayed" error message and could only navigate back to the original version 0.66 page.) I've contacted the developer again; waiting for a response.

I do not mean to change topic, but which is better, Wodeon, or TCPMP?

From the limited experience I've had with both, TCPMP seems to be better where it works. As discussed above, there seem to be problems with TCPMP on MIPS H/PCs. I still haven't heard from the developer since my last post, so I don't know if this is being corrected in version 0.66d. Wodeon works on all my H/PCs, even a monochrome running CE 2.0; however, the image flow is considerably jumpier than on TCPMP, and the application can't handle as large a data load as TCPMP. I sometimes get data overload messages interrupting a video even when using the "Large Buffer" setting. If you have an SH3/SH4 or StrongARM processor, I'd recommend TCPMP.

As I noted above, I was unable to locate this new version using these links, and I haven't heard from the developer since. Maybe you'd like to try:
