I love my old grayscale screens and the battery life that comes with and I snagged one of these for 40aud with no battery cover, what neat things can I do with this thing and what's the max CF card size it'll take happily?

Play some old WinCE games. Haven't played with mine in a bit, but I used it almost exclusively for Solitaire. I'm sure I had Pac-Man on it, too.

I've never tried a Compaq C140, but taking notes while reading a book is something I like to do with my Handheld PCs.

I think a friend of mine wrote a story with it.

Some friends and I do preservation/digging.

Came across this delightful page of some 1.x stuff! https://web.archive.org/web/20161230152341/http://velo.8k.com/

Nice version of Frotz for 1.0 as well (file is FrotzCE_130.zip) http://mirrors.ibiblio.org/interactive-fiction/infocom/interpreters... Originally located here https://web.archive.org/web/20030418002444/http://www.pyram-id.demon...

If you have a sync cable with it, CE 1.x devices make convenient serial terminals with Pocket Tera Term. I think vxHpc might run on CE 1.x as well, though I've never tried it.

I just bought a C140, very nice unit. It is a rebadged Casio Cassiopeia A-11 though. Nothing wrong with that though because I used to have a Casio Cassiopeia A-11 till 2001. I have a Casio Cassiopeia that it's touchscreen does not work. The C140 came with CE 1.0 and the A-11 had CE 2.0 in it. So I swapped modules and now my C140 has Windows CE 2.0 in it.

With PocketDOS you can enjoy a giant wealth of cool little programs, not only for nostalgic but also for pratical uses.
A CE-DOS machine just taking AA is so cool.

Probably the sync cable is hard to find. Someone commented on Amazon to use Infrared. Maybe try that? It has IrDA 1.0 Serial IR (SIR) - 115.2Kbps.

This is maybe a little late but the C140 shares a serial port/sync cable pinout with a lot of devices across various CE generations, mainly Casio A-series, NEC MobilePro 7xx and the Vadem Clio. I don't have any specific part numbers off the top of my head but if you broaden your search you might have some luck, I think Alan Computech in particular still has a lot of surplus NEC accessories at the moment.

I can vouch for Alan Tech being a great seller. I’ve bought several items with them.

Ah, the C140! A cool little piece of kit. Besides simple note taking and it being my "go-to" for Solitaire, I haven't really played too much with it. But I just love the overall look so it's a keeper in my book. Even if it should stop working, it'll be on display. Just a great piece of Wince history.
