| I was looking at some things today, and I found this site, which has some files for Jornada 720.
In it, I found a directory called flashboard.
I honestly don't know what it is, but some of you might find it useful.

Lots of Linux stuff till 2008 here:

| Great find!
Looks like they are for the JLime project
And here in particular there are lots of hardware info and documentations. Maybe useful for the incubating projects (debian/retrofit )?

| These flashboard files are for the flashboard PCB.
I already made a few of those, but for initial flashing you need a device that can program the flash chips or the JTAG interface of the SA1110.
I try to trace these pads if i get a faulty mainboard, because i need to desolder the CPU.

| Thanks for the explanation.
I have a Japanese ARM book that had some things about JTAG. I'll look if it can help. I think it has a really detailed manual of the StrongARM chip in a PDF... |

| Does anyone know what this picture is of the Jornada 720? Is this the flashboard everyone was talking about? I found a zip file containing PCB stuff, so if someone's interested, let me know. Edited by stingraze 2020-12-01 8:32 AM

| This is HP's original ROM board. The flashboard project was aimed to replace this ROM board with flash chips that could be erased and, for example, hold Linux filesystem instead of WinCE. |

| Thank you for your information.
I found a PDF of all the pinouts of the flashboard or ROM board and it's attached below. Edited by stingraze 2020-12-01 2:32 PM

| Are those the 2 Ram chips that need replacing for the 128Mb upgrade? I purchased 4 of those upgrade chips many months ago...still in their packing wrap...a bit timid on going forward. Any tips on how to de-solder and resolder safely would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

| I believe the PDF I attached above is for the flashboard / ROM board.
28F128J3A x 2 is the Flash chip by Intel.
K4S281632B x 2 is the 128Mbit SDRAM.
(You can buy this here in Japan for 299 JPY )

As for how to desolder, a video is here on YouTube at: (Time: 2:18 )
I've never desoldered surface mount IC chips before, only experienced in larger DIP ICs.
I think it's best to try it out on other chips first.

| Hi!
Samsung K4S511632C-KC75 work! I also use them for my upgrades.
There are also Chips from Micron that work, i got a few from Notebook RAMs. I have to look for the exact model number.

And for the soldering process: try to practice on old SDRAM sticks. And use Flux!

| Hi,
upping old thread. Stefan (or someone else), do you have little bit longer experience with K4S511632C-KC75 chips. I ordered some from aliexpress, but cant get these work. Jornada doesnt show any signs to start up. Some bad batch maybe? Tried on two different flahboard. Next week will try cross test with old chips, will resolder them back.

| Hi!
My oldest board is from 2019 and works well - even after daily usage. All other boards that I have shipped should also be fully functional - at least i havent heard anything that a board has failed.
Maybe bad/cold solder joints? Check your connections twice!
Or you got some fake chips from China ...
Regards
Stefan

Just a reminder: upgrading your ROM board to 128Mb requires the use of Stefan's special "128 bootloader" for Devuan Linux per his wiki site (which also explains why-- he had to work some of his magic again )... otherwise boot fails.
