I was trying to connect my device to the internet using a virtual machine with WindowsXP and ActiveSync, but even though I made all the settings so that the USB ports were recognized, my USB cable connected to my GPS navigator is not recognized. PS: I am using Debian on my computer;

Using the command VboxManage List usbhost with the USB cable connected, I saw that Virtualbox does not recognize it, only my mouse and my webcam.

Host USB Devices:

With the command sudo dmesg | grep -i usb, I found a GPS navigator being listed, but I don't know why it isn't being detected...

Just to know more about the situation:

What is the model/name of the GPS device?

Does it require a specific driver on the PC?

Can the device be recognized by another Windows machine?

Which version of ActiveSync are you using?

He is a Discovery Aquarius 4.3
Here in this link has more information about him:

This question I do not know how to answer, and researching about it I did not find anything either, and if it needs a driver it is very likely that the driver is only available on Windows;

I haven't tested it, I just have the Linux computer here, and WindowsXP on the virtual machine;

ActiveSync 4.5.

Are you using a USB 2.0 port for the device?

I had a similar issue on my laptop running Ubuntu 18.04. I had to add my user to the 'vboxusers' group to make the USB pass-thru work. (then log out and back in for the group membership to take effect)

What happened to me was that, unless there's a successful connection by some application, the guest OS disconnects the port and the host OS captures the device.

What helped me was:
1. Go to the VM Settings > Ports > USB.
2. Add the USB ID of the device to the reservation list under USB Device Filters. My Jornada would not work until I did that. The information for my Jornada 720 is:
Vendor ID: 03f0
Product ID: 2016
Revision: 0000

You can choose on the right the "Add USB filter with empty strings". That means that the next USB device you plug to your machine will go to the selected VM, then you can specify the filter so your host OS won't try to capture it next time. I have two reservations on my list: one for the FTDI FT232R USB UART and the second one for my Jornada.

You can do the same process to capture your USB GPS.
