Vast amounts, especially given how much of it they just package up and sell

Confrontation between the West on one hand and China and Russia on the other is growing. And the confrontation is not primarily military: it takes place in the daily lives of ordinary citizens all over the Western world from cyber-security attacks to social media manipulation. In this talk, Elisabeth Braw will discuss what is happening and what to do about it.

Elizabeth Braw is a cyber-security expert specialising in grey conflict areas such as cyber warfare, social media manipulation and data harvesting. She had a recent piece in Politico on the subject

@C:Amie:

The more I learn about cyber security and its areas, all the hidden actors that are with government, and not with government all cooperate together in covert and overt actions against military and civilian targets.
I can't believe how merciless some hackers are to target hospitals with ransomware, that's just so wrong...

Also speaking of data acquisition, I discovered a OS called Maru OS, have you heard of it?

"Use your phone as your PC.
Unleash your mobile device with Maru, a context-aware, lightweight, open operating system that unites mobile and desktop computing. "
"When you're on the go, Maru is your phone.
Maru is built on the latest Android Oreo. It ships with zero bloatware, so your phone runs snappy and has lots of free space for all your apps. "

https://maruos.com/

Seems interesting, I wonder if it is less data hungry...

So... it is running LineageOS and Debian. Presumable the Debian part is virtualised or in a container? It's going to run LineageOS + mobile apps + Debian + full desktop apps. It feels as thought it will need some high end devices to run well.

What happens to Debian with you pull the HDMI? Auto-VM suspension and the RAM released and committed to disk or do all of its event times still tick in a pseudo-S1 state?

Yeah, the devices officially supported are a bit old, like Nexus 5 and Galaxy S 9.
I read on the Japanese site explaining this that you can use Chromecast to display instead of via HDMI.

It seems developer’s group has more devices. ( https://groups.google.com/g/maru-os-dev )

I also found this:

https://grapheneos.org/

“GrapheneOS is an open source privacy and security focused mobile OS with Android app compatibility. It's focused on the research and development of privacy and security technology including substantial improvements to sandboxing, exploit mitigations and the permission model. GrapheneOS also develops various apps and services with a focus on privacy and security. Vanadium is a hardened variant of the Chromium browser and WebView specifically built for GrapheneOS. GrapheneOS also includes our minimal security-focused PDF Viewer, our hardware-based Auditor app / attestation service providing local and remote verification of devices, and the externally developed Seedvault encrypted backup which was initially developed for inclusion in GrapheneOS.”

Looks interesting stingraze, not very media friendly though, no no wonder I've never heard of it. They need a marketing overhaul, that's for sure!
