| UPDATE:
Got the grave ' ` ' symbol working!
But not the left curly bracket....
I added the following to the .Xmodmap file:
To fix grave symbol add: keycode 11 = 2 at grave at
For left curly brack '{' I tried: keycode 50 = p P braceleft P
But no character is typed on screen, when I type fn + p keys.
Any suggestion to fix this?
Thanks,
Mark |

| UPDATE 2:
Just tried typing using shift key.....if I press shift key, it types a 'p'......not good....
Not sure if it is due to my revisions to the file or was there before.....
Joval, are you having this issue with shift key?

My previous post was from my J720/Devuan/RasPi and I used the shift key several times for Upper case... no problem ie, Stefan's name for example. That's X-forwarding with vncviewer. Looks like something you did has a side-effect. Good work on the grave though!

| OK, thanks for your input....hope that X-forwarding doesn't impact this issue......
But will try adjusting the keymap again and see what happens......
And will try again to get left curly bracket working......

| Hello!
Oh - I messed something up with the uploaded file!
I attached the complete and fully working file in this post.
Instructions:
Download the file and rename it to .Xmodmap - then move it to your home folder "/home/USERNAME/.Xmodmap"
End X with crtl+alt+del and start it with startx again.
Now all the FN keys should work on the US keyboard.

Just tried the new file...and function key + yellow key does not work....
Did as you instructed.
Assume the .Xmodmap file is not being recognized by system?
Any suggestions?

| Don't have this running, Mark, but have you looked at the PC or Symbol file in the x11 directory? Most of the time, that's where I hack my keyboards.

| Thanks for your help, Jake....
I just looked in X11 directory and do not see any files named 'PC' or 'Symbol'.
Best,

| Did you check in x11's subdirectories? Maybe xkb? (I'm not near a computer)

| If you can hack those files, you need to run a reconfigure command, and again, can't be specific, working only from my phone.
