| I went to the local store to get some inexpensive parts to build a proof of concept of a "Handheld Computer mod" you can use with your smartphone.
It went better than I expected, maybe I'll fix a hinge together with the plastic lens and the bluetooth keyboard.
All you needed is 7inch plastic lens / magnifier for smartphones and a bluetooth keyboard. Very basic, but I think this is good for watching short movies etc. If the lens quality had been better, it would have been perfect.
The cost:
$6.52 for the 7 inch smartphone plastic lens
$9.58 for the bluetooth keyboard (20cm )
This is excluding tax which is 10% consumption tax in Japan.
I am using CAT S40 smartphone with this short demo, but XPERIA XZ3 displays much better quality video. |

| It's pretty good, it works better on my OLED XZ3. The lens angle needs to be adjusted better. |

| I should give you a badge for advertising HPC:Factor on YouTube
Might I assume that it is clearer in reality than it comes across in the video? It seems very distorted and hazy in the video?
I can find them on and which seem to be the same products. Looks like the magnifier is £5 in the UK but the keyboard £30!

| Nice job, stingraze. Even its simplicity is very clever.

| Wow, I wouldn't have thought of that, Really Neat idea. To be honest it kind of reminds me of the old Gameboy attachments I saw as a kid with a jumbo magnify glass and lights, sometimes speakers or AC power cords to save your battery. |

@C:Amie:
Yes, it looks better in reality, but I think I would use my XPERIA XZ3 with OLED instead of my LCD CAT S40. The test results with looking at YouTube video was much better.
Update: I took some photos of it when used with XPERIA XZ3. In reality, the focus is much better, but a little bit of a strain on the eyes to be honest. I wish I had a better quality lens.
Yeah, I wouldn't mind getting the badge!
Just an update to the screen size, the correct size was 8 inch instead of 7 inch.

| The more I look at it, the more I like it! Off topic: I see you use the same Microsoft mouse I do. Does yours squeak like a dying mouse every time you touch it? |

| I'm glad you liked it.
The mouse doesn't squeak for me. I like the mouse. |

| I enjoy the mouse, it's just squeakier than my bed on a Saturday night. Might take it apart and check it out.
I'm curious, what about one of those car "heads up displays"? The kind you just lay your phone in and have the screen reflected? Like this one:

| Yes! That sounds like a terrific idea. I will look if there's an inexpensive solution.
That reminds me that I also own a VUFINE+ (HMD) although that's a little tangent. Maybe I'll get a HDMI out adapter and connect it to a smartphone... |

How good is the keyboard to actually type on stingraze? |

Something like this, right? I used to have one quite recently, up till about 5 years ago. I found it in a store.
The 999 JPY keyboard actually is pretty good, not the best, but not the worst either. Something along the lines of a late 00's netbook and a "regular laptop".

| That's the type of thing, yeah! I think I had one more like your example above though, it had a magnifier with more of a fingerprint pattern on it, vs a convex lens.

It's interesting these things have become sort of popular again in the smartphone era.
I also found this by ELECOM, P-LS3X01BK . Maybe I can stick it together somehow...

Like HPC:Fan suggested using a HUD, this HUD looks cool to use...
