EMM200 or tremm are also super useful for getting enough memory to get certain programs to run. http://mizj.com/

I seem to remember having to run with a modified EMM200 as explained here http://www.ip-arch.jp/emm200/emm200_2m_patch.html

Hi,

Running into similar problems....but have tried suggestions note in this thread along with Daniel's suggestions on his great Hermocom website.....but to no avail so far.

Hope one of the great minds here can help......

A. SRAM Card

I am trying to use 2MB Pretec sram card (SN5002 with 200LX. I figure if I can get it working on 200LX, then I can hopefully use it on my other two DOS palmtop pc devices.

Here's what I get in DOS:

A:\> DIR

Not ready for reading Drive A

Abort, Retry, Fail?

Did Fail and got:

Current drive is no longer valid

Did:

C:\> format A:

format not supported on drive A:

format terminated

To test slot is working OK, tried a Delkin eFilm PC Card ATA Type I 8M card and it is recognized by 200LX.

Any suggestions to get sram card working with 200LX?

UPDATE

Just learned I need to install a driver file onto 200LX in order for it to be recognized....so, need to get CF card recognized so I can use it to copy the file from laptop and over to 200LX.....

Where should I copy the file to in the 200LX?

B. CF Cards

I am also trying to see if I can get CF cards working on 200LX too. Having problem with this. I

Tried (3) 16MB and 128MB SanDisk CF cards (assume they are type I cards) in a Type II PC card adapter. But they are not recognized. Could this be due to using Type II adapter or ?

I get message "Invalid media type reading drive A"

Any suggestions with getting CF cards working?

Thanks for any and all help!

Mark

Hi, Mark,

From here:

https://www.hpmuseum.org/cgi-sys/cgiwrap/hpmuseum/archv021.cgi?read=...

I got this:

"The manual says to format a card go to Filer then press "MENU" "O" "C" and then you are prompted if you want to format, if you get "format not supported" message then drop to DOS and run fdisk100 to create a partition it understands. I did this with a CF card that I purposely formatted so that the 200LX would not understand it and when it finished formatting I was able to use the card."

If it's not working, do make sure you're in pure DOS, so you have all the memory available.

Let us know,
Jake

Hi Jake,

Thank you so much, as always, for your great help and support....

I just got CF card working!

The trick was to first format the CF card in laptop with Win10. Then I did all the steps suggested in this thread/your input and Voila! now the 16MB CF card is recognized in 200LX properly.

Have the sram driver file now copied onto the card. Do you know where on 200LX I should copy it to?

Once I do that the 2MB Pretec sram card should work......supposedly.....

Mark

UPDATE

Never mind, I found out file needs to be on root level of C:

Hmm, this is where I fail--I haven't worked with a sram card.

In light of its size, is it worth it? Given the ancient plastic of these things, I prefer to pull out the cards as little as possible.

Or are you like me: proof-of-concept all the way, baby

At any rate, glad you got the cf card working at least (I have the same card).

I have a bit of a 'catch 22' regarding the Sharp PC 3100 and Tidalwave PS-1000 palmtops......

In order to use CF cards on them, I first have to copy over driver files to internal C: drive.....

As I don't have the proprietary cables to connect these devices to a laptop, I first need to use a sram card to copy the files over to C: drive.

Figured it would be easiest to try and get sram card working on 200LX first. Then use card on the other devices.

Just tried sram card in 200LX, still no go.....

In DOS:

When I got to A: I get:

Not ready reading drive A
Abort, Retry, Fail?

I do F for fail and get:

Invalid drive specification

Did fdisk100 and got:

fdisk is not needed for card in slot A:

So, did format a: and got:

format not supported on drive A:
format terminated.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Mark

Man, I'm lost. You could post on the LX digest and those veterans may flashback to something. They were a big help with my Omnibook.

Had another thought.....about driver file.....

It has a '.inf' extension after the filename, but think it's just a text file...as I was able to open it on laptop and see all the text.

Is it possible that on the 200LX, the extension type should be changed?

If so, to what?

Thanks!
