Hi, I'm a new user to HPC:Factor and a new H/PC collector in general. My collection isn't very big, as I only have two H/PCs, both of the same brand and product line (Philips Velo). I'm looking to sync my Philips Velo 500 with my PC, which runs Windows 10. I have all the materials needed (USB-RS232 adapter, Philips Velo serial cable), so it's theoretically possible. Right now, I'm able to sync it with a virtual machine running Windows NT 4.0, but I was wondering if there was a way to sync it with Windows 10 directly. I've tried to use Windows Mobile Device Center, but it wouldn't connect.

Any help would be appreciated.

Edit: I realize now there is a CE 2.0 support forum, but I'm not going to repost this thread there, because:
A. It may not be allowed.
B. I don't know how to delete forum threads.

In the future, I will be sure to post in the correct forum.

To what I've heard from folks here, Windows CE 2.0 etc. aren't able to sync with Windows 10 since it can't use ActiveSync etc.
(Refer to: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-windows... )

There are things like this I found on stackoverflow that Windows Mobile 6.5 worked on Windows 10 using WMDC.
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/32052429/how-to-connect-a-window...
That probably won't help though.

This page on HPC:Factor may sort things out for you.

Yep. Using the normal method.

The video above has an alternative way, although I haven't watched it or tried it.
It might help you.

"With a Windows XP SP3 VM, Outlook 2007 SP3, ActiveSync and a local Nextcloud server or any other CalDAV server, you can synchronise your ancient Handheld or Pocket PC, keeping it useful and helping protect the environment." - YouTube user Shiunbird

Wow, I watched that video and that guy really knows his stuff and it's a really complicated setup.

I sync HPC2000 with WMDC/Win10/patch, and have long ago given up syncing CE2.0. For some reason, I thought a virtual XP could run AS 3.8 in Win10, but that was clearly the wrong thought.

I watched a bit, and yes, the guy is very knowledgeable.

If you can run Linux on Windows 10, maybe this project called SynCE might work. Not sure though.
https://sourceforge.net/projects/synce/

There are also several others I found,
MultiSync: http://multisync.sourceforge.net/news.php
OpenSync: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenSync (German Wikipedia) Google Translate to English here.

Good finds, stingraze. Nice to have those sites organized here.

With my HTC Shift x9500, I remember playing with SynCE. AFAIR, you have to use Evolution (Linux PIM set), and it won't sync with Outlook--I'm not sure OL was ever 100% compatible with Linux/WINE, let alone sync-capable.

SynCE was buggy, as I recall, and development sort of petered out.

Thanks.

I also found this tip on connecting Windows CE 2.11 to Linux via infrared.
It may help in connecting to Windows CE 2.0 in some ways, although it's not a real "sync".

"This will tell you how to set up a masqueraded PPP connection via. IrDA from WinCE to a Linux based notebook computer. Once you are IP connected, the rest is up to you. We put this together as a guide for Sony notebook users with Casio E-100/105 PDA's, though the procedure should work for any WinCE 2.11 device with infrared capabilities talking to any notebook. Do all the Linux side testing signed on as root, standard warnings apply. "

That's a great link, wish I had seen it back when...

From what I can gather, beginning with kernel 4.17, Linux ceased support for IrDA

I'd really just stick with the VM. I ended up using a Windows 2000 VM to sync my LG Phenom. Was way, way easier than trying to do it directly on Windows 10.

It won't. ActiveSync relies on the NT4/NT5/9x DUN stack for which the API was removed after Windows XP. A VM with Serial/USB pass through that runs Windows 95, 98, Millennium, NT 4.0, 2000 or XP with ActiveSync 3.8 is the cleanest, quickest and sanest way to do it.

Ok so I installed Windows XP thru VM on my Windows 7 (Dell Latitude 2120).

Hopefully it works.

My list of things I need to order/find.

9pin to USB adapter.
360LX Serial cable.
SD to CF adapter.

Then Ill be set with my 360LX.

Windows CE 2.0 Rom.
8mb Ram Module.

Then Ill be all set with my Philips Velo 1.

I got a Velo 1 in box, 2 boxes actually as it comes with the original travel case as well. Dock, AC, Serial Cable, manuals etc.

At least ill be able to mess around with the Velo once I get that 9 pin adapter, but with Windows CE 1.0 and only 4mb of ram, im pretty limited with the Velo.

But thanks everyone for the help, glad I have everything setup.

-Walt

One last thing, someone online maybe selling me a Compaq C-140 in like new condition. Ill have to post some pictures of the PDAs soon and Ill be doing a few videos on the different PDAs I have and uploading them to Youtube if any of yall are interested. :-)
