| I was reading through Hackaday.io, and found this:
"I started off wanting to build a device that will add modern storage and Wi-Fi to my ageing but beloved Psion Series 3c, one that would fit into its SSD port. Difficult enough, you'd think."
The journey is still continuing, but very interesting to read.

| Great find, stingraze. I'll make a point of following these developments. Can't imagine what could actually happen if they do get on-line. Maybe RSS, email...

| Thanks, Jake!
Maybe you’ll be able to control microcontrollers like joval through some basic browser?
BBS / forum for sure, I guess. And maybe IRC? |

| You know, if you're judicious, you can still get around a lot of the 'net on 115K IR connection. I do it all the time, even with the J720.
But I don't know the SIBO OS at all. I guess it has email, but Opera, etc was only developed for ER3 and above, AFAIK.

| That's nice.
I've only managed to use IrDA for PC to PDA and PDA to PDA connection, never as a modem device.
I would like to try IrDA modem via a laptop sharing my internet connection via 4G sometime...
Psion devices get good prices around here in Japan, so will have to keep checking for a good deal.

| I've always wanted a 3mx, but even now, they command a hefty price. I once saw one go for $500USD.
As for IR, I connect via a Nokia 9300 Communicator, and have surfed, modestly, with a Zaurus, J720, and various Psions.
Wish I knew if there was RSS reader for SIBO.

| Although not for SBIO, this came up on search. Seems like a python script that makes RSS feeds to text? It supports PSION Organiser II, but the output file should be easily read by PSION SBIO by a text editor.
Project from 2020.

| Again, another great find on your part. Blogtrottr service will email your rss feeds, which helps since ER3/ER5 never had a RSS reader, AFAIK.
Trouble with email/Revo's small screen is that bold-ing the text would really help. Fontmachine was a *.sis app that let you use TTF fonts, etc, but the site is long gone and never found a registration code, so a current install of its beta (from wayback) complains about missing reg number.

| Thanks!
I got a PSION book published in 2000 today.
It is quite informative, I will read it till the day I actually own one.
I wonder if there is an archive somewhere by someone of all the old softwares... I might have a mobile only magazine CD-ROM thay MAY have softwares for PSION...

| Alex, who was working on this, has taken a break AFAIK. He has created another site here https://psion.info/ and the psion documentation project here https://doc.psion.info/
I have added bluetooth to a 5mx.. it works just fine for networking through a Linux machine, as a cable replacement for PsiWin, and also allows the psion to act as a BT keyboard. However configuration is all manual at the moment (sending commands through a serial terminal ). Here is a picture. (5mx_bt.jpg)Attachments ---------------- 5mx_bt.jpg (99KB - 6 downloads) |

| I should have mentioned: You can also share internet to the psion through bluetooth from an android phone with this setup, though you need to use a special application called "SecureTether Client" |

| Obviously, I don't know anything about Psion devices, but I found this thread that may be of some assistance where munchausen describes more about the Bluetooth module

Hi Jake, I am into communicator and psion too!
I have an Ericsson mc218, a 9210 communicator and a 9300i communicator.
Is there a guide to connect the psion to internet via IR using the 9300?
Which programs do you use?
In your opinion I could even connect to internet the 9210 via IR using the 9300? Many thanks!!!! |
