Choking on the stench of ambition in Washington DC

This may be slightly off topic, but it does answer the second part of the question--what do you use it for? My answer: not as much as I used to.
I've recently moved to Costa Rica and found that the country's monopoly phone service, ICE, will not support the IR modem of my beloved Ericsson R320s.
This confuses me in many ways, especially since the basic call placing/call receiving part of the phone works fine. I can also use my J-720 or my Mako to SMS through the phone's modem. I just don't get how a company can support the GSM phone but not its IR modem.
How I miss checking e-mail in the middle of nowhere, with just my J and a 320s and not a wire to be needed.
