Speak of the devil,

This morning I went to the hospital to get an Ultrasound of my Liver and Bile ducts,
as my doctor is out of options and does'nt know why my liver blood results are off the charts.
They found another gallstone blocking one of my bile-ducts,
at least that what it looks like on the low-quality images of an ultrasound.
I'll have to go in for another MRI to make sure...

So it looks like I'm going to have to have another surgery in a few months!...
I'm lucky I live in NZ where all hospital stays and surgeries are completely free,
If I was in the US and did'nt have expensive health-insurance I would have been broke by now...

This is really horrible... The surgeon who removed my gallbladder containing the gallstones did'nt have the time to check if any gallstones are left in the bileducts ???
Anyways, I guess i'll be having another injection of that fantastic propofol anesthetic, which makes you feel like a million dollars when you wake up LOL
And *some* of those nurses in the recovery ward were really nice women, they treated me really well

Cheers,
Radiance

I always loved getting a personal bed bath from a young Candy Striper while in the hospital...sadly they stopped that procedure in the late '70s and turned it over to the older nurses that could be biker gals except for the uniform.

Candy Stripers were (and may still be) young female volunteers at US hospitals. Probably, mostly, high schoolers with community spirit or those in need of extracurricular activity for college applications.

Such volunteerism may have been left over from WWII efforts. At any rate, they wore pink-and-white uniforms to make certain they weren't mistaken for nurses, as they had no official medical training.

I do hope things mend fast, Terrence. I'm sorry to hear of your difficult times.

Hmm, always a good day when I learn another english word or term
I guess we would call them an "orderly" or something...

Don't worry about me, I'm made of steel (and small amounts of rock, like the one in that bile duct LOL

Cheers,
Radiance

Except in Rich's sordid book, even candy stripers rank below orderlies (orderlies are at least paid). Glad to hear you've still got your moxie (once a soft drink, now a term for courage).

Maybe it was a hospital - just not the kind he thought it was.

radiance, my mother had her gallbladder removed in 1966 at age 26. She never missed it.

They told me I could have it before I left the hospital after the surgery (my removed gallbladder).
I had this picture in my mind of a jar filled with alcohol and my gallbladder floating inside sitting on my fireplace mantlepiece,
a nostalgic keepsake... LOL

But, in the end I decided to leave it for them to dispose of

I've been living without it for many months now, and I don't miss it either,
It doesn't impact my life in any way... I can still eat what I want (even a NZ/Australia sized BBQ session).

I think the gallbladder is an evolutionary dead-end,
probably useful 50.000 years ago when, for survival in winter, people had to resort to eating large amounts of raw fat tissue from spear-killed mammoths/elephants etc...,
and their bodies had to break it down and digest it...

But nowadays, with our fancy cooked "lean" meats, it's not necessary anymore...

Cheers,
Radiance
