As you can see, I now believe in Santa!
The 200lx came with a 256 card which I already loaded with Windows 3.0 and a bunch of real mode windows apps from here: https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?p=946197
I must say I'm loving this little machine. Win3.0 is unbelievably fast in it, quite impressive. Now my next endeavor will be to add a mouse to this thing. Given the cost of serial adapters on ebay I think I will try to build my own. Any advice?
Niiice! I'm glad you got Windows 3.0 on it.
Some info about the serial port pinout etc.:

I'm surprised to find this video on YouTube:
Running Minix on the HP 200LX, a UNIX-like Operating System.
Yes, was surprised to see this too...
Very interesting that he got this working....
This guy is making lots of 200LX videos....
So check his channel out, if you're interested in 200LX.
There are a few other good 200LX videos on YT too....

| Looking good, ntware....
As for mouse, check out HP Palmtop Tube Channel on YT....he just did a video on mouse options and what connectors needed.
He has other interesting 200LX videos too.

| If you're working Win3.0 without a mouse, meaning mostly working within WinWord1.1A, put this in the WinWord command line in Properties:
a:\windows\winword\winword.exe /MFile1
That will start Word and bring up the last document you edited.

I can work on Windows without a mouse fairly well, as I grew up using Windows 3.1 and learned all the keyboard shortcuts to do stuff faster. The reality is that, for Windows 3.0, mouse was still optional. I can navigate on Windows perfectly using just the keyboard on the 200lx (change apps, maximize windows, move windows, close programs, etc ). The only problem is with apps that require a mouse and aren't aware of a keyboard-only setup. For those I will need a mouse to play with. I've done my research and, the most difficult thing is to get an adapter that will fit on the awkward sized db-9 serial port of the 200lx. It seems that those 2.5" IDE connectors from late 90's laptops has the exact same pin distance and size of the 200lx serial connector. I just bought an 2.5 IDE adapter on Amazon hoping that I can use it to build a connector that will work on the 200lx serial port. If I manage to succeed on that, then wiring cables won't be a problem. |

| You can easily make an adapter yourself - just buy a 2x5 pin header with 2mm spacing. Then solder wires between the pin header and a 9 pin D-SUB connector. I did this a few years ago with my 200LX.

| Outside of Word, I can't see Win3.0 serving much purpose, with or without a mouse.
There's this: https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?p=938788 and much to be admired, but unless you need games, I didn't find a program that would help day-to-day Win3.0 usage.

| Jake, honestly a 30 year old DOS palmtop doesn’t really have much purpose at all nowadays except for the nostalgia of reviving childhood games and software. If it were for mobile productivity, I would rather just type whatever on my Gemini directly on Google Docs that syncs automatically with all my devices. Syncing documents from Win3.0 Word into my desktop or laptop is a pain through serial or flash card. |

| I guess I'm coming at this from a much different angle. I need three things from any handheld: a) sync Outlook b) sync Word 3) sync HanDBase
With a minimum of kicking and screaming, I can do all of that with the 200LX. Much easier than I can with CE 1.0 or 2.0
I can even surf with the 200LX (though no email without a desktop connection).
So fully-synced, the 200LX is remarkably portable and probably less so when connecting a mouse half its size.
Perhaps my expectations are too high, but they're luckily being met.

Yes, I think it would be great to have one.
I have a 200LX now and there are clearly others here with one or other models of these little pocket size PC's....
Thanks!
