I found this via Twitter today.
Image from Pocket Reform website.

Pocket Reform Prototype:
https://pocket-reform.ghost.io/prototype/

Seems like it's an open source mini computer.
Things are still in prototype, but will be a great inspiration for 3D printing enthusiasts and DIY handheld enthusiasts.

Cool idea.

But it does not look as it is on it´s way to a real production path. It is more or less an idea with some inspiration for own projects

Not really. They seem to have gotten funding as a startup scholarship, and intending to do it as business.

"Pocket Reform is designed as part of the Circular Economy. Circular Economy is a way to design, manufacture and use things within planetary boundaries. That means we not only aim to design Pocket Reform as an accessible, repairable and upgradable device but also that our whole business and us as a team follow a repair-reuse-recycle approach. To make this happen innovation design collaborative think out loud teamed up with MNT Research, a studio with expertise in open hardware development.

Currently we got funded by the Berlin Start-up scholarship which allows us to work full-time on our idea making a productive and self-determined contribution to shaping the future."

https://pocket-reform.ghost.io/hello/

There are other places hinting they are aiming for a product. Maybe not mass production though.

Yet again, stingraze finds the coolest stuff on the internet.

I'm digging the kb, what with its Right Shift and well-placed Tab.

@dl1av--re: Astro. I understand that Covid and weak supply chains are serious disruptors, but this delay strikes me as something beyond such things. I think a few Astros are actually in Asian users' hands, but haven't heard anything about UK, Mainlaind, or US.

As for Astro.....

I'm waiting for mine too.....fortunately, my Cosmo is doing well and in excellent condition.....

I do think issues are mostly related to covid and repeated China lockdowns, which also causes supply chain issues....there've been more lockdowns recently.

And don't forgot about all the Chinese holidays, etc....

UK Astros are apparently being shipped to Planet's UK warehouse for then shipment to backers.

Have a feeling that US keyboards Astros will start production soon, barring further lockdowns, supply issues.

Supply chain for Raspberry Pi is pretty terrible. Some sites are July, and some are November!

Here in Japan, there were some Raspberry Pi 1 Model A+ in stock in Akihabara. There also was a Raspberry Pi 400.

I didn't know there were fans, to bring certain projects to light. A DIY PDA would be nice.

UPDATE 7/1/22

Received my Astro a week ago.

Works great!

Still like my Cosmo too, but don't need it now.

Was a long wait, but happy camper right now.

Best,

Mark

Hi ArchiMark...

Cool! Did it take over 2 years from order date to arrive?

How's the backlit keyboard look and feel.

Do the Planet devices have reliability issues or have they been solved?

best regards,

joval on his "poor man's Cosmo" J720/devuan/RasPi

Hi Joval,

Only took 2 years, 3 months....

Backlit keyboard is great and like on Cosmo....

Keyboard is great, but just like I found on Cosmo, the keys loosen up a bit after you type on it for a week or two. At first, some of the keys feel a bit stiff and take a good press to have character be typed.

My Cosmo types very nicely. Expect the Astro to be the same soon.

I have had very good luck with both the Gemini and then Cosmo. No issues at all.

So, I'm happy with PC quality.

If anyone is interested in my like new Cosmo....PM me....have box, start guide booklet, AC charger, leather case.

Best regards,

Mark
