Why on earth wouldn't you want the newer Windows 98 shell? :s
Let's say I'm more fond of the old one. Then the Shell is lighter! |

So this is a problem I've always had. I have never been able to resolve.
I've always wanted to install MagicPDF Printer, a virtual print.
However the installation fails as these two errors appear:

The problem has always given me even with the Shell IE.
Do you know a program that creates a virtual PDF printer?
This or another compatible virtual printer. |

| Anyway, windows seems slower to me. Even with active DMA.
EDIT:
I did some tests and something is wrong. The Mechanical Disc is much faster!

According to win32's API docs, winspool.drv.deleteprinterdriverexa wasn't added until Windows 2000. So you need to find a 9x version.
Did you enable DMA? |

| Yes, enabled. The Compact Flash sees it as compatible and has allowed me to enable DMA.
Maybe I need to set something from the bios?
I took a look at the bios and found DMA resources. Only in Channel 2 there is System Resources, for everything else there is only the wording available.

| No, it shouldn't be a BIOS issue. That screenshot appears to be for the ISA bus, and the IDE I imagine will be on the PCI bus. Id windows shows it as enabled, I imaging that it is.
What CF card are you using? What class and speed rating? |

EDIT:
I was told by another person this:
because your adapter was designed for XT pc's and limited in support for DMA you need a smaller card to boot but have it running as non boot drive
there needs to be interest shown to the manufacturers of these adapters they do have a sata version though.
Your opinion? Could it be true?

| eBay Listing doesn't have a class listed. Chances are it's just a slow card (or there is something wrong with the adapter ).
If you look at at the photo you will see a 160MB/s UDMA7. Those are the speed and DMA mode supported. I imagine you will only manage DMA 1.0, so 33MB/s max. Have you installed any IDE controller drivers? If there are any for the chipset, you should.

That doesn't make any sense to me. You have clearly booted from the card, so that has nothing what so ever to do with anything. |

| I wrote to the shopkeeper for the technical specifications. I await what he tells me. Otherwise I will buy the one recommended by you.
Between the two which advice; 32gb Extreme CF or 32gb Extreme Pro CF?
As for, I have not installed any drivers and I don't know if there are any. I have no idea how to look for them, this adapter looks like a cheap Chinese product to me.

| It shouldn't matter as your machine isn't electrically capable of 120 or 160MB/s transfer speeds. The card just needs DMA support and it should run faster than the old hard drive - I am shocked that it isn't already and do wonder if it is the adapter acting up. You won't know that until you try a different card though |

According to the description on Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-Standard-40%E2%80%91Channel-Drivers-C...
I read: Compatible with Type I, Type II and micro compact flash standard 40 - channel drivers.
I have no idea what Type I, Type II are.
https://www.amazon.com/PSCCO-Adapter-Compact-Bootable-Converter/dp/B...
I read: Standard IDE interface:true-IDE mode, and supports DMA-33 transfer mode.Power supply from 5.0V or 3.3V,Select the appropriate supply voltage according to your CF card.
It should be the same one I got on ebay. from the photos it seems so. Edited by NarakuITA 2022-06-25 11:48 AM
