Noticed some rare Mobilepro items on eBay today. A MP700 for $100. Not a bad deal if you are a collector.

Even more rare...a brand new MP790 in the box...$600. And a new MP790 in an open box for $300.

Crazy...who pays that much these days?

Lmaooooo.
I paid $100 to get an MP790 last month. And I was the buyer for that 700 you saw. I paid $85 though
I think I overpaid for the 790 but I bought for emotional connection. I’ve seen 900s for $100-130

Yeah...well just remember.. I was the first guy here to buy a MP900, and I paid nearly $1000 for it...so $100 for an MP900 is a great deal

And I still have it...though I haven't turned it on in years. Only handheld I still own.

Really do miss my 790 though...my all time favorite.

Yeah, the prices these days on eBay are so high... I wonder if it's due to "retro computing" being popular.
I'd normally spend somewhere from $50.00 to $75.00 thinking in USD based terms, but like 5000 JPY to 7500 JPY in JPY based terms. (The USD-JPY is like 135 JPY to 1 USD these days so, yeah)

Yeah, I remember 11 years ago taking my bike (I didn't know how to drive yet) to meet someone from Craigslist to get my original 790. Definitely a sweet PC. I very much missed it, and though I most likely overpaid, I definitely feel it was worth it.
The 700 intrigues me because of the long battery life - on AA batteries! I'm excited to give that one a try! I found the RAM upgrade on eBay, I think I'm going to grab that too assuming mine didn't come with it by default. I assume the 750C 2.11 ROM won't work in the 700 right? I just wish I could have at least CE 2.11 on the 700, but for only typing, it should be perfect.

Yeah, I think $75-$100 USD is my cap. I recently found an old PowerMac G4 Mirror Drive Door model for $40 USD that was worth about $170, but I fell in love with the design of the computer that I couldn't part with it! The Sigmarions definitely look cool and unique for sure, but NEC has been my heart/soul

So update on the MobilePro 700--I decided to keep it. The seller horribly described the listing - the hinge makes an AWFULLLLL creak on opening/closing - and looks like some paint was applied to a rudimentary hinge fixing job. The deal-breaker for me had been the CF slot not working correctly with files, but I figured out that Windows CE 2.0 is pretty wonky/picky about read-only/archive .cab files, and that the slot is working.
The device looks like it's been through hell, it's very sticky too in places with the paint, but I do like it a lot otherwise. I was able to get google.com on my Orinoco Gold + Ethernet PC cards. And I got the 32MB RAM upgrade too

It's a fixer upper, but I'm very happy to have it be the final piece of my H/PC collection. My goodness though, HPC2000/even HPCPro brought so much quality of life improvements, I forgot how much different 2.0 is.

Edit: Added family picture

Sounds like a fun one too. Tear it apart, use Goo Gone or some other non-acetone gunk remover and get rid of the paint. Use a silicon lubricant on the hinges... Yup...a challenge

Yeah I misread what Rich said and used acetone nail polish on the top lid. My goodness, it looks horrible, but it’s not sticky anymore !
I’m going to do the rest of the outside but slowly in a few batches. I’m very scared to mess with the inner screen and keyboard so I’ll probably leave those alone. The stickiness doesn’t really bother me there. It’s mainly the outside when handling it.

I got it all set up though. 32MB of RAM is very nice on CE2. Plus C:Amie and Jake had some good suggestions of CE2 apps to use in another thread I found.

Yeah, rubbing alcohol is probably better for those plastic surfaces.

My uncle fixed the hinge for me for the 700 and finished the top of the lid and surprised me when they picked the color.

It looks so good!

Does anyone have advice on how to pose your H/PCs for photos? I thought a desert backdrop would look cool. (I was thinking of a new prof picture)
