Yes, but which patch? Do I need to install all the patches that are recommended here on hpcfactor ??
Yes. The patch guides are designed to replicate what Windows Update used to do.

I have downloaded and installed 90% of the recommended updates.
Unfortunately the PC is extremely slow.
I have come to a conclusion WIndows 2000 is too heavy for my IBM. The latest operating system that runs very well is Windows ME.
I should try XPlite and 2000lite Professional v1.9 to lighten it. However it does not allow me to use the Trial version. As soon as I start it you tell me that the 30 days have already expired and I have to buy the paid version.
Do you know a similar program?

I'm afraid I do not. In all honest, I've never looked at any of these hack installations.

I would stick with Windows 98 SE then. Millennium lacks proper MS DOS integration, so you have all the instability of 9x but none of the ability to play DOS games. There's always my favourite Windows version, NT 4.0. However there is no native support for USB in NT 4.0 and you have to use third party driver solutions if you want it. NT 4.0 SP6a is just rock solid. No DOS support at all but rock solid. On my personal machine, I went from 98 first edition to NT 4 to XP. I sat on NT for a long, long time as 98 SE, Millennium and 2000 just didn't appeal or had issues after trying them on test hardware.

So I tried to install NT 4.0 but because the disk is too big it refuses to install.
On this page, it doesn't give much information on how to fix the problem.

Do I have to create an 8GB partition with Fdisk?
And the remaining 24GB as a secondary disk, will windows see all 24?
Because if I have to create all 8GB disks, I prefer to use WinME which works great for me.

You need the Q197667 Large ATAPI Disk Driver

2. Boot from the three setup disks supplied with Windows NT Server.

3. When asked if you would like setup to detect your mass storage devices,
press S so that detection is skipped and you specify a mass storage
device.

4. When setup list devices found, which should list <none>, press S again
and insert the Microsoft ATAPI Service Pack 4 IDE Driver disk and press
ENTER twice.

5. After setup reads the disk and list the Microsoft ATAPI Service Pack 4
IDE driver, press ENTER to accept the driver.

6. Setup will now list Microsoft ATAPI Service Pack 4 IDE Driver as an
installed driver. If you have additional drivers for other mass storage
devices, press S; if not, press ENTER to continue through setup.

7. Setup should continue through normally but, it will prompt you to insert
the disk labeled "Microsoft ATAPI Service Pack 4 IDE Driver Support
Disk" at the copy phase after you have chosen or formatted a partition
on a hard drive.

Ok. Another thing I read in a forum that NT does not, by default is unable to see Fat32 formatted disks, in this case removable disks. Do you agree?

Then there is another problem. The installation cannot proceed as the following message appears:
Cannot find the hard disk partition prepared by the MS-DOS part of the installation.
During the MS-DOS portion of the Windows NT installation, you must specify a temporary drive supported by Windows NT. See the Windows NT System Manual for more information.
During the installation, there is no session where I can choose the disk or partition. I have no idea how to fix this.
The boot disks were created by the installation program itself.
Initially I formatted disk C with the Windows 95 Startup disk, then from the NT CD I started the Winnt.exe program.
The program made me create 3 NT boot floppy disks.
He copied files from the CD to the disk and then rebooted asking me to insert the NT boot disk.
From here the whole procedure up to the error message.

I tried to install on the 16GB industrial CF.
With the windows 95 boot disk (fdisk) I created a 7.5GB partition.
The problem remains. It does not detect a compatible disc. I guess NT doesn't like CF.
