| I recently purchased a new old stock HP Jornada 680e.
After installing a Belkin USB to RS232 adapter F5U409
and installing Windows 98 SE into a VM and installing
the Belkin driver and Windows CE 2.1 software all
I get is a message "Waiting for a mobile device to connect.,...".
Powering on the Jornada causes the RX led to flash on the USB adapter.
The Jornada also displays "Connecting to serial port @19200" which
times out.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks. |

| What VM software are you using?
Is the VM with Windows 98 you are using able to communicate in other ways by Belkin USB RS232?
Not sure, but you may have to add serial port to the VM software which the Jornada 680e will connect to.
Others may know more.
Good Luck.

| Are you sending Windows 98 the USB device, or just forwarding the serial port? |

| OK. The same Belkin adapter F5U409 I use on XP to connect to a Sharp OZ-5500
and it works fine with RuppLynx 6.2.
My goal is to get my Jornada 680e to talk to my PC Laptop in any OS.
The drivers for Belkin support 98 / ME / 2000 and XP.
I don't believe the "Microsoft Desktop Software for Windows CE Services v2.1 with ActiveSync (X03-71169) May 1998" will work with all of these.
With XP it wants a non existent service turned off. Refuses to run on 2000.
I guess I need to find out which OS Windows CE 2.1 will run on.
Again, any help is appreciated. |

| You need to upgrade Windows CE Services to utilize ActiveSync 3.8. It’s in the support section. Windows CE Services 2.1 is obsolete and 3.8 has the latest technologies for Windows 98 and your CE device. Make sure you have the relevant prerequisites installed on your host OS

If you can help it and it’s easy to do so, I recommend a clean install then install ActiveSync 3.8. Otherwise you may be able to get away with just uninstalling CE Services 2.1 and installing ActiveSync 3.8. C:Amie knows more than I about this Edited by torch 2022-09-19 2:10 AM

| Final working setup:
Windows XP Pro 32bit - ActiveSync 3.8 - Belkin USB-RS232 F5U409 - Jornada Sync cable
Windows XP Pro is in a virtual machine on VirtualBox.
Setup but don't use Outlook (to allow complete sync). Setup Word, Excel and Access.
Can now Sync both ways. Fantastic..
680e came with "Jornada CD-Rom Software Solutions 1998". Unable to read CD. Does anyone have one
to spare (copy is OK) or upload an ISO?
Last thing to try is a full backup.
Thanks for all the help.

| Can you do me a favor and please attach a picture of your CD that's not working (I think it'll have a part number)? I'll try and work on looking for it for you. |

| I haven’t been able to locate it but usually those OEM CDs are pretty boring stuff. I would check H/PC update for your 680e and see what downloads are available (the Jornada series is notoriously well supported) and I suspect anything anything that was on that CD is either there or in the SCL. If I do locate it, I’ll of course message you here. |

| If anyone has an ISO of it, I'll put it into H/PC:Update. |
