Hi! I'm new here to HPCs but I bought a few units to tinker with and this eBay unit reveals an interesting mod.

There is some IC dead bug soldered to another. Any idea what this mod is?

What's the part number of the IC to the CPU's upper right that appears to have one of the pins lifted? I'm not at all certain but it seems like at least some of these jumpered components are on the CPU address lines. Maybe some kind of memory mod/upgrade?

The ICs that have legs with mod wires on them are a MAX756 and a 3702C

I am unsure what the dead bug soldered IC is but it appears to hook directly to a line from the SH3 cpu.

This type of patching was not uncommon on the 300 series. Either they had batch problems or they were recycling older boards with newer revisions and had to mod them. So it may be that it was a down-variant board that was pulled up to spec to support the faster 360.
I did post some high res photos of the board of the MC12 somewhere on the forum, but I cannot find them. There are patch wires in several places on it.

Here's some data sheets about MAX 756 and 3702C

MAX756:
https://www.maximintegrated.com/jp/products/power/switching-regulato...

3702C
https://www.datasheetq.com/3702C-doc-ST-Microelectronics

MAX 756 is a DC to DC converter, 3702C is a CMOS dual voltage comparator.

Maybe the mod is something to do with battery current stabilization or something?

I'm going to go on a limb and suggest its a clock mod, the positioning and pinout is correct in my opinion. Looks like they used the pads from a few places for a few extra bits to input into the module as well as snubbing noise

Thanks everyone for all the answers, the soldering on this is rather impressive.

If this was a clock mod, is there any way to test it? I was able to fix an intermittent short on this board and it is now working properly.
