Okay, here's the message I get on Windows CE 2.0

key 1 error use: 5 (or 13 with gold card) printable characters
10 (or 26 with gold card) hex digits if preceded by 0x

Here's my testing process I want to work out:
OPEN Wifi Network works
then I want to try to get WEP 64 working
then after that works we'll try WEP 128 for CE 2.0

Anyway going back to the WEP code

Wifi settings are
ASCII 1234567890123
HEX Key 1 A7D5CFE7B0
^ The following of which I generated from the Fresh Tomato Router firmware

The strange part is, when I went to WEPKEY.com and did 1234567890123
I got a different HEX Key 1 of 84F43C903A

So maybe the WEP key service is bugged on Fresh Tomato since it's so seldom used?

^But before we eliminate the router being the issue, could you assist me with WEP64 and 128 codes for our basic WEP code of 1234567890123?

(Or if you had any other ideas to test WEP64/128)

And I know you said to use the HEX NOT ASCII, but the WaveLAN control panel is super picky with the hex key
^when I type ASCII 123456790123, the control panel "accepts" it
but when I type HEX A7D5CFE7B0 I get error

Okay, here's my newest update:

Google.com works if the WIFI network is Open (no wep key)
but using google or the router gateway in WEP results in:
Unable to connect to the internet site "Blah" please verify address is correct and try again

My network settings in Windows CE are as follows:
DHCP off, static IP of 192.168.1.2
Mask 255.255.255.0
Def Gateway 192.168.1.1
Primary DNS 8.8.8.8
Secondary DNS 8.8.4.4
My network settings on the router are:
WAN:
Connection Type DHCP
IP Address 192.168.50.208
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.50.1
DNS 192.168.50.1:53

^Which the above settings worked when the network was set to "Open" with google.com

I didn't modify anything to select the WEP other than literally adding a WEP key

FYI I'm on the 4.06 driver version. I haven;t used 4.04 yet

This is the problem with old CE clients, they use different initialisation vectors and rules for passphrase truncation so can come up with different HEX keys vs the IV being used on the router, that and passphrase length impacts key output.

Use a 5 digit passphrase to generate a WEP64 key and a 13 digit one for a 128 key.

For example. If I use 12345 as the passphrase here:

You will get 3 different HEX keys

1234567890123 will generate a 128 key, not a 64 as it is 13 characters long.

Okay here's what I did:

I changed to "1234567890123" and made it a WEP-128 key

I entered 1234567890123 into the WLAN settings for key
(I don't think I can type the HEX version of that, because I'll get that weird other error of "10 (or 26 with gold card) hex digits if preceded by 0x "

and websites still don't connect, gives an error

I did static IP under 192.168.1.22 ; 255.255.255.0 ; gateway 192.168.1.1

I thought you were going to get 64 working first?

Retried with 12345 WEP64 identical result
(I used the ascii not hex )

Internet browser just says internet site could not be found

I hate to sound like a parrot, but as I've said. If you're suffering from the hash conversion algorithm mess, constantly entering the passphrase and expecting different results to occur is not going to help you.
