Think maybe the 'VR' in VR Linux, relates to naming convention of MIPS chips that start with VR....

like VR4111 or VR4121, etc.....

Yes, I believe you are correct.

Okay so I found some info.

This is a bit old, about NetBSD 6.5 on Windows CE. I recommend using DeepL https://www.deepl.com for superb automatic translation service.
Japanese:

I think this is the latest hpcmips image built by ebijun.
I haven't tested this image myself. I think is is for Sigmarion 1. Not too sure.

Details on GitHub here:

If you need more info, tell me.

Finally got around to trying this. Thank you very much for the link! It does boot up but it looks like it's about in the same place as a regular 9.3 install- a few random cores here and there, no suspend/resume, and no X working.

Do you happen to know if the author (ebijun) is still around? Or if they ever got X working on hpcmips? Not sure if you're on the port-mips mailing list, but this is also being discussed there...

Hi. Glad to see the links were put into use.

ebijun (Jun Ebihara)'s twitter is here:
https://twitter.com/ebijun

Not sure if he got X Window working on hpcmips.

This is some information in Japanese from 2007 about X Window System / VNC working on Mobile Gear MC/R 300. (Mobile Pro's Japanese Ver.)

More Info (in Japnese) about hpcmips:

I'll try to find more relevant information if I can.

OK- one note. The X version included with NetBSD4.0 works fine (and out of the box!). The newer one, which is the same AT LEAST in versions 7,8,9-current, is the same one and was compiled in 2011. It does not work at all. So I mentioned in the other thread, one possibility is somehow pulling in the old version from 4.0 into 9.3 to get a working X. Thoughts?

Based upon what you describe, sure sounds like it would be worth a try.....

The worst thing that can happen is that it doesn't work, right?

He understands English, so it's better if you ask him.

Seems like X Window is working on several devices including Workpad Z50 and Sigmarion 1.
