Not to drag this back up and muddy the waters further but...I just found an article from 2000 that states that the 780 RAM is upgradeable to 48MB...so the search continues.

Quote
Memory: 32 MB RAM (exp 48); 24MB ROM (upg)

Nevermind...reading an old thread about it here it seems the expansion to 48MB referred to in the article never actually materialized from NEC.

Honestly, even 32MB should be comfortable - everyone's different, but I just stick everything onto the CF card, and do about 80-90% program memory, then the remainder storage memory.
(just my two cents)

Make sure you check if your device is type one or two before purchasing

I know you’re not in the USA but I wanted to show you because you can see pictures of the exact ones I have that work

I don't know about HPC2000 ARM (like MP900 or Jornada 720)
But:
I can get 2GB maximum on Windows CE 2.0 MIPS for my MobilePro 700
8GB maximum on Windows CE 3.0 MIPS for my MobilePro 790
And 32GB maximum on Windows CE 4.2 XSCALE/ARM for my MobilePro 900

https://www.hpcfactor.com/support/cesd/200205/maximum_supported_memo...

Now:
I also read somewhere that there's some kind of storage driver for HPC2000 ARM that may assist in higher capacities, but I can't remember what HPC:Factor thread that was.

I had another idea for your 780 for you, the 780 will accept the ROM (NOT RAM) of the 790, meaning if you could find a MobilePro 790 ROM chip, you could have Windows CE 3.0 HPC2000

Here's the thread for details.. https://www.hpcfactor.com/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=1317
unfortunately, I couldn't find any available ones

edit: fixed link

That's pretty rad. Haven't come across any 790 ROMS for sale so far but I have a feeling I'll just have to keep looking for a while.
