| To everyone in the community: Merry Christmas if it is your thing. Recent Saturnalia if the solstice is where your mind falls and happy mid-winter (or summer) break if you are generally indifferent.
Whichever way you fall, I hope that you are all warm, well and get to spend time with loved ones; especially for those in Europe suffering for the whimsical ego of a mad man and to our friends in Canada and the US under the yolk of weather chaos.
Stay warm, stay safe and I hope you all find some time to unwind over this period. |

| Merry Christmas from Japan!
Pretty cold today. I took a picture of Mount Fuji today. Covered in snow.

| Thank you!
I took it from a hill, but yes, I can see Mount Fuji quite well from my house.
The power lines are the bad things in the scenaries around here...

| Good grief no
I'm probably the least material person you've met... and I don't want Covid. Two things that mean the High Street loses out. |

| Here around it is a "quiet holiday". So no shopping legally allowed.
But I get your point. There is no need to run around one special day for things you can buy the whole year.
If there was a last minute sale in a recently discovered abandoned computer store from the nineties --- things were different

| The "boxing day sales" aka the start of the January sales have always been a retail nonsense here. The North America's obsession with Black Friday, just without the insanity or violence. Like any other sale though, it's not a sale any more. when I was a kid, the Boxing day sales used to be end of season and clearance stock getting... uh... put on sale. Now everything is new stock, cheap consumer rubbish and like Black Friday, everything is fake mark-down. They just mark it up to double price 7 days before and then given 40% off.
It's all fake and I don't think that retailers realise the damage that they do to themselves. There are still enough saps to make it financially worth while. |
