I was wondering if there's either an x86 build of a tray volume slider or an open source one, does anyone know of that perhaps?

Try looking for a .net compact framework one too. It may work if you find it.
Or vb (Visual Basic)

My x86 thin client has a applet tray icon that can load the volume settings window (it doesn’t show a volume slider , it’s merely a shortcut to open the sound settings window )

I’d try and upload it if it would help but I can’t find the exe for it and don’t know how to locate it.

Shame we've no contact for Chris Russell at Grundle software, they might be willing to open source after all these years.

It looks like that house sold in 2015. So new owner isn’t him most likely.

Try the email if you want. Even though the www is dead, the domain is still parked and mail transfers set to gmail.

No idea, a valid mail transfer doesn't mean it is delivering.
