I finally got my taxes for 2022 filed/submitted!

On that note, how do you folks around the world do it? I heard our country is a bit archaic of "Hi we have your info, but we make you file/verify it anyway"

Most people here pay at source via the employer, so called 'PAYE', so do not have to file. Company directors, anyone with capital gains or rental income has to file, amongst others.

My wife and I we also have to file because
she is self-employed with a child day care. I wouldn't have to submit a tax return myself because, as C already said, everything is paid through the employer.

Everybody pays...if not directly then indirectly through to costs of products and services. My wife used to tax me for her services...a new purse, matching shoes...either I paid or slept alone...

I am an employee and the taxes are already paid by the employer. Unfortunately in Italy, taxes are withheld from the paycheck, equal to 23% of the salary. For the highest salaries it even reaches 43%.

The gross tax is determined by applying to the total income the following rates by IRPEF brackets, recently subject to reform:

up to 15,000 euros: 23%;
over 15,000 euros up to 28,000 euros: 25%;
over 28,000 euros up to 50,000 euros: 35%;
over 50,000 euros: 43%.

But...what happens if there's something bad/dishonest on their part? Would your tax authority come back on them first, or you?

I mean, that does seem more logical. Or even have everything prefilled, and you just double check..

WOWZA that's....interesting
My refunds got deposited last week.. I don't do the weird 0% APR advance debit card thing. I just do the free direct deposit even if it's slower...

If the employer makes an error, they fix it next month, if they lie their accountants, auditors or directors get fined or imprisoned.

If an employee does the same (say failing to declare they have a rental property), same.

UK tax bands are
Personal Allowance Up to £12,570 0%
Basic rate £12,571 to £50,270 20%
Higher rate £50,271 to £150,000 40%
Additional rate over £150,000 45%

Plus NI on the first per-month...
£0 to £1,048 0%
£1,048.01 to £4,189 12%
£4,189.01+ 2%
