I highly recommend going to at least OSR2.1 or higher if you’re able.
If you’re not using the official Microsoft supported way for usb support, that would explain why the drive name doesn’t show up with third party drivers

I also found this page with a tidbit which may assist

I noticed sometimes after installing/re-installing the driver the drive fails to mount or show up in "My Computer" even after rebooting. If this happens, try going to the device manager, open the hard drives group, and find and remove the entry for your drive from there. Then remove and re-insert the flash drive and it should be found again.

So I double checked my version. This time I saw well from the properties. I have Windows 95 OSR2.5.
As USB support I used this:
https://msfn.org/board/topic/177518-xusbsupp-extended-usb-supplement...
Do you say this unofficial driver is the cause?

I guess the Italian version doesn't exist, right?

Unfortunately, I don't have any personal experience with this. I'm mainly going off of what I can find.

In that picture, check the File Explorer with "Removable Disk E:" and so forth. Notice no drive labels with volume name?
I think we can assume that's a limitation of either Windows 95 or this particular driver. I haven't been able to find an answer for you on which of those two is the cause.

Can you try the driver I linked to?

Also does the Ghisler total commander program I linked earlier in the thread show the volume name? The trial should let you try that
^I'm trying to see if a third party program can read the volume name, if so, then it's a limitation of the UI in 95's file explorer
OR
^If it doesn't show up in Total Commander, we can then move on to try a different driver perhaps?

Or what did you think?

So the link you gave me doesn't have any files to download.
Total Commander does not see the volume name.
Another thing. I forgot to tell you about a rather unusual problem.
When I do the safe removal, and the operation is successful, if I remove the USB disk, windows crashes. Forcing me to manually shut down the PC.
So every time, if I have to take out the USB disk, I have to shut down the PC first

Try the driver here

Per this thread I found this:

As I seem to recall, the DOS/Panasonic doesn't allow for "hot plug" of USB memory devices. That is, if you want to change the USB device, you have to reboot.

I tried them. It does not accept them as drivers. I uninstalled the ones I had as well.
Never mind. Windows works just fine. If I have to remove the disk, I turn off the PC and the problem is solved.

I’m sorry I wasn’t more help with your issue.

I know you’ve used Windows 95 and Windows 2000 on this machine. Have you tried Windows 98SE by chance ? I was just curious if you knew how it performed on it.
Obviously I know Windows 95 is preferable for you.

Well, the problem does not occur with Windows 98SE and Windows 2000.
But I'll tell you more, in a previous installation of Windows 95, the USB problem, if extracted from the PC which blocked everything, did not appear. This error was not there.
Before, there was only the removable disk label problem, which did not appear.

But I also want to tell you another thing, which I forgot to tell you.
Currently, occasionally, but rarely, when I insert the USB drive, the name of the removable disk appears for a second, and then disappears and the words "Removable Disk" appear in its place.
Maybe it's a driver issue? Maybe windows itself?
I just know it doesn't matter anymore. I am fed up. Everything works and I'm happy!

It would be nice to update with all the updates, recommended by C:Amie, in the guide written by him.
Unfortunately, not finding it in Italian, I don't want to install the ones in English, as it makes me the operating system, half English, half Italian.

For the security updates in Italian :
Apparently Microsoft used to release CDs of security updates and supposedly those were multilingual. The February 2004 disc supports Windows 98FE,SE, and ME.
But I can’t find which one supported 95.

Interesting! Just out of curiosity, can you send me the link of these Windows 98SE and ME updates, which include various languages, and certainly Italian? A thousand thanks!
