Hey Jake!
Yeah, it's been a while. I've been delving in to many different projects over the years. After hpc's and the mips netbooks i moved on to the cheap wm8650 netbooks and tablets. Then on to the zipit z2 (awesome little device ). Then i got hooked on collecting vintage Macs and started writing and porting software to PowerPC OS X Tiger and Leopard, including some modified Linux distros as well. I've been hanging out on MacRumors since. I also upload a lot of my stuff to MacintoshGarden and i have a blog i update once in a blue moon here.
I still have 2 of those mips netbooks, and they still worked when i packed them up when i moved a few years back. I should dig them out some day. They were fun to tinker with back in the day.
Cheers
Welcome back! I actually have a PowerMac G4 MDD and a PowerMac G5! Love tinkering with them and Macintosh Garden is excellent! Good hearing from ya |

@RTFM! Man, where have you been? We've missed you. I used 3MX with great success on all those cheapo umpcs (until they gave up their $50usd ghosts). Miss the Little Linux Forum as well. Do pop in here now and then and catch us up, you're always into interesting stuff.

Echo Jake's sentiments....
Keep us posted....
And regarding chromebooks, never had one....but like your idea of how to use them....
Any particular ones you like?

| @RTFM -- a million years ago, I followed your lead on a Zipit, got one for a song, and could never get the damn thing on-line. One of my many failures in the world of technics. Don't have a Mac, et al, to play with. Just as well, I spend too much time as it is with these things. Very buried now in the PinePhone/Physical kb. More and more, I'm thinking this setup is the new HPC (to get vaguely back to topic).

| Thanks for the warm welcome back.
Always wanted an MDD, but i must stop collecting soon. I think i'm up to around 9 various G4 and G5 machines.
I haven't played with too many chromebooks, but i really like the Lenovo ThinkPad versions. Very well supported by Linux and can be had for next to nothing. I picked up 2 "new old stock" 11e's off ebay a while back for $30 each with free shipping.
Ahh the zipit. That's too bad. Maybe try it again. The openwrt build is pretty slick. https://mozzwald.com/zipitz2/ |

| What's MDD stand for?
I've still got my modded PowerMac G4 Tower sitting under my desk...one of the gray sides and gray-blue front and top models....very classic design....haven't fired it up in about ten years I'm guessing....
Thanks for your input about chromebooks.....Lenovo ThinkPads are very good machines....I've got a 14" carbon X1 gen 9 with hi-res screen that I use every day...dual booting Manjaro linux (use it 99% of time) and Win10. Great light laptop.
Zipit, had one of those years ago....was fun to play with using openwrt.....remember mozzwald...had thought it might be a good substitute for my ol' Zaurus....

| I used to have the ASUS C101PA, which is a 6 core Chromebook. It cost about $321.00, but was worth it.
The turn on speed was incredibly fast and it was lightweight. It of course could launch Android apps on it too.
I also turned on the Portabook from KING JIM the other day, which I installed Lubuntu 16.04.1 on it a 6 years ago. I like the folding out keyboard of it...
