| You must not have hard rest the 2010c, because if you did it would not be asking you for a password! Did you follow the instructions in the users manual? |

| I have hard reset my Compaq 2010c as instructed in the user's manual a few times. This involves removing the rechargable battery and backup battery. Even after doing that, it still asks for password...
The only solution is asking the ebay seller the password (if possible) or even return it... |

| That's definitely not normal behavior.... the hard reset should have cleared everything in memory, including the password! |

| Hi;
The Compaq C-Series HPCs use a non-erasable. encrypted password - as you've found out! Instructions to get aroud it are found on HP's site at: http://h18000.www1.hp.com/support/files/c-series/us/download/9111.h... Hope this helps.

| How long did you keep the batteries out of the device for, and I know it's a stupid point, but I'll throw it in just in case - did you take the AC out? |

| This is right out of the C-Series Manual - 'Under their Enhanced Lockout Mode' (AKA the enhanced nutty system )
Lockout—If an administrator password has been enabled, the
device enters Lockout mode. To gain access to the device
again, the administrator password or the unlock key (a
character combination ) must be entered. After ten
unsuccessful entries in succession, the device transitions to
Administrator Lockout mode.
NOTE: Refer to the Compaq CD for information on obtaining
the unlock key for a nominal fee.
Administrator Lockout—This mode occurs when all
password attempts have been unsuccessful. You will not be
able to access your handheld PC until the unlock key is
entered.
This is the perfect example of what can happen when you 'Are a Prisoner of the Unlock Code' |

| now one of my friends got a compaq 2000c (that's right, not 2010c at least he says so ). he was aware it was locked but i told him he would be able to unlock it with this utility.
well... he can't any ideas? i'm feeling a little responsible for this
btw he didn't get a charger only a serial sync cable. hope the 2000c uses a standard DC jack...
i'll include a photo of the lockout screen maybe that tells something to someone. Edited by cmonex 2005-10-10 4:14 PM

| Ugh. This is not a fun thing - it happened on my C once...when it was still alive.
Just use the unlock utility, it will do what you need. Hard resetting will not remove the lock..the point of the lock. It's really a dumb thing, if all your data is gone, why lock the device that way? I am glad that feature is not available on my 720. |

| I had the same problem on my Compaq as well. I kept trying to enter the unlock code based on the magic number...nothing happened.
Then I noticed that when I cold reset the unti, that a different magic number would pop up, it would change.
So then I tried the unlock program again, and again, and again, and again, each time entering in a new magic number.
Finally after about 20 attempts, I hit on one that worked. Viola, problem resolved...went straight to the setup and removed all passwords....never again.
