Really it isn't possibl, they both need access to the same things, and can't share resources.
If you really, really, really, really wanted to do it you would need to script up a sequence to askill and swap over the clients.

this is how i solved this problem: i got out my win98 toshiba from the drawer and installed H/PC explorer on it.. worked smoothly at first try. i was surprised
so, maybe you should find an old P1 with win95 or win98 or make your PC dual boot.

lol, cmonex!

I have a P1 computer w/ win 98 SE! But, I thought that h/pc explorer could be installed w/ AS 3.7.1. Someone on the site said this...

It is exceptionally difficult to get two apps who both are based on the same core to do different things. the current state of affairs dictates that in order to have H/PC Explorer running you have to uninstall ActiveSync, and in order to have ActiveSync running you have to uninstall H/PC Explorer.

Rather long winded really.

After much aggro, I got them to tick together... to a degree.

I can have them both running in the tray simultaniously, however if you want to use H/PC explorer AS has to be put to sleep by disabling all the communication options. USB sync to AS however doesn't require HPCEx to be put to sleep.

AS still seems to work, however H/PC explorer wont take host installers or notice Outlook. You can however move files across from the device.

The reason why you have to put AS to sleep is because it has the more prevalent daemon, and it jumps the TCP stack whenever it sees traffic on a 192.168.55 range. I do not know how to change the AS TCP range.

Thanks, C:Amie. When I tried AS 3.8 and HPCEx 1.1 together on Win 98 SE, AS worked via serial sync with my Nino 300, however when I opened HPCEx and tried to sync via serial to my Velo, it did not work and said that my device was not compatible (carry-over from AS 3.8 most likely). I think I am getting Virtual PC with Windows 95 soon...

Virtual PC is by far the best option, however you cannot easily maintain a single PST file for Outlook sync.

It is, surprisingly possible to get Outlook 2003 to sync with CE1.

When I tried the Virtual PC trial, I inserted my Win 95 CD and the DOS prompt said to insert a 'bootable' cd. Anyone know where to find one for Windows 95?

You need a boot floppy to install 95.

Anyyyyyyyway. Another day, another challenge.
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I have the Outlook sync working.
A-thank-you, a-thank-you *bows*

I also now know why app installers don't work... alas that one is not exactly easy to sort out programatically... unless I rebuild every CE1 installer.... NO, I'm NOT rebuilding every CE1 installer

EDIT: Proof is in the pudding, so I installed Streets on it:

Got time sync working too

OK, looking for beta testers.

You need Windows XP or Windows 2000 and ActiveSync 3.8, a CE2+ device and CE1 device - please don't install H/PC Explorer.

ok i certainly qualify for that (two PC's and a laptop)
but first i need to get AS 3.8 to work on the PC's again... however i can test on the laptop.

You don't actually *need* a working 2.x+ device, it's just preferred so that we know it still works. You do need AS3.8 though
