OK, I installed the beta software to get the 2 services to coexist at the same time on a It's installed.

The loading and unloading of Activesync and Handheld Services seem to work fine (Actually - it is quiet slick...).

I still have not been able to get my Compaq C140 to sync. It tries to sync. I keep getting the following message:

"Communications Error

Cannot start communication with the desktop computer. Remote Netorking could not start due to a critcal error (Error 628). Please reconnect ...."

I don't get any RAS errors. I do briefly see a "User authenticated message...".

Thanks..

DG

David G,

Is this error coming from HPCEx or from Windows Network Connections?

Hi, The error message is showing up on the C140's screen.
-------------------------------
I know that I tried to install H/PC explorer serveral months ago. I had problems then and uninstalled it. (I didn't pursue it then because of the problem with Activesync and H/PC explorer running at the same time.)
--------------------------------
I am currently using COM1 on the C140 (CE1.0). I have been using COM2 for Activesync and my RS232 hookups (CE2.0 and 2.11). This evening I will try to swap the port connections (in case something is wrong with my PC RS232 port.
--------------------------------

As far as the Beta software. Its pretty cool. I see how you use Kill the running software and shuffle in the correct .dll's. I think you are on to something. It seems to work properly. I have noticed that I get some errors switching software in the same session.

--------------------------------
My Network connections are as follows:

On my current COM1 setup, I've done the following:

In "Network Connections" I have and Incoming section with "Incoming Connections" In its Properties on "General" Tab I have checked "Communications cable between two computers (COM1)". On the same screen "VPN" is not checked. The "Show icon in notification ..." is checked. (Note: If I check both COM ports on this screen, I get errors when Activesync is turned on (No ports are available.. or some such error.)

On the "Users" tab has the Guest user only checked. The "Always allow directly connected devices such as palmtop computers ...." is checked.

The "Networking" tab has all Network components checked.
----------------------------------
Finally, I normally have the Windows Firewall on. I have tried syncing with it both enabled and disabled.
----------------------------------
Let me know if you see any discrepancies or errors. Also, note, I have never sync'ed the Compaq unit before on any machine. I bought it over a year ago at at thrift shop. It was virtually new with all documentation and packaging (except the software CD). I do have a Win98SE machine downstairs that I can try it out on (when my son goes back to school).

Thanks... DG

OK, be sure that you have not changed the port speed - you must not change the port speed.

Secondly, head into the Networking tab, properties on TCPIP and Specify the IP address as

192.168.55.101 to 192.168.55.102

then check the "Allow calling computer to specify its own IP address"

Give it another try.

The process sliding aren't the only changes to this though, HPCEx has been modified, as has the system registry.

Amazing...

It's up and running.

Finally the CE1.0 becomes useful!

I'll monitor for the small bugs and let you know what I encounter.

If I could only find a CE 1.0 book reader....

(How did you ever figure all of this out! - The IP address... wow...)

Thanks...

DG

In my opinion, CE 1.0 is pretty good, however, two limitations: H/PC Explorer and no installing programs to a storage card.. However, I think I should get an HP 3xxLX

Okay, my first issue with the BETA.. I followed your instructions C:AMie, now I have a problem using the connection wizard to my serial port. After I select 'accept incoming connections, it only sees my parallel port...

As it says in the readme you have to go to CESDC0002 before it will work.
