so, opera mini works. you just need to install the correct version of the java midlet environment and manager, IBM J9: j9-midp20-wm2003-arm_22.CAB
it is a wm2003 only installer but it works fine.
hexedit the OS versions of all EXE and DLL files in the J9 bin directory after installation. executabilitycheck works fine for this task. oh and you need aygshell (16.5 kbyte version).
(to change its norwegian menus to english: Start Opera -> Meny -> Verkt?y -> Instillinger -> Spr?k -> English and OK)

J9 works with many of the phone midlet applications as well
will test it on ce.net now.

thanks to TFGBD for his help to locate the right version if IBM J9. it would not have been possible without his help.

now i'm looking forward to the release of the pocketpc version of opera. coming soon. stay tuned

download IBM J9 and opera mini here:
http://izemize.fw.hu/j9-midp20-wm2003-arm_22.zip
and

and screenshots...

ok it works fine on the MP 900C.

NO HEXEDIT needed! and no aygshell. it likes the ce.net 4.2 aygshell present in the ROM of the 900C.

so you just install the cab file and click on opera.jar and that's it...

try it and you can decide for yourself

J9 users can use a lot of midlets as the Getjar:
http://www.getjar.com/software/Java/All

Download the JAR file of a program.

nice application . Too bad it stores installed midlets under /My Documents/midlets in ram. It would be nice if we could store them in cf so we could have lots of midlets without calculating if they worth the space they aquire.

I searched the registry but couldn't locate any string to modify this. Maybe some hex editing will do. I'll try when I have some free time.

If anyone finds a solution post please.

p.s.

i navigate through lan interface using proxy. opera mini can't work under these terms. so a bit useless to me. or maybe i miss something. found another web browser too. here it is

Hi cmonex, this looks really interesting and I'd like to try it out but I'm having trouble downloading the IBM J9 software from your link. Downloading starts ok but 'completes' after a random amount is saved. The best I have managed is a few hundred Kb but the download usually finishes after about 10% has actually done.
Operamini.zip comes down fine.
Have you got another link that I can try?
Thanks
Stevie

Thanks cmonex, I'll keep an eye out. I did venture across to the IBM page to try and get it direct but got hopelessly confused by all the different versions.
It's strange as it's just as if the download has completed, no errors etc. I can watch the little green bar slowly moving across as the download progresses and then it suddenly jumps to the end.
Don't know if anybody else has the same problem, it is probably just my PC.
Thanks again,
Stevie
