Good news for J720 users.

Finally we have a updated browser on our machine. Netfront 3.3 release work almost perfectly on J720, S3 and NBPro. You have only to hack the netfront33.exe file at all the cellcore values replacing them with 28000080. Then with executability bring up it at the OS version (3, 4.1, 4.2) of your machine and enjoy it.

Regards

I assume you are referring to the Netfront 3.3 "Technical Preview Package" released at http://nfppc.access.co.jp/english/about_v33.html

I installed this on my Jornada 720 (I had to copy to cab over manually), then transfered the NetFront33.exe back to my desktop machine for hex-editing. I did a find/replace for cellcore.dll and had it replace the one instance it found with 28000080. I then transfered the file back to my J720 and used executability check to rewrite the exe version number to 3.0. Executibility check reports a number of errors still, including mfcce300.dll doesn't export a function ordinary ####, coredll.dll doesn't export a function ordinary #### and 28000080 can't be loaded.

Any clues?

heh... congrats!!! !!!!!

i'll tell you what.. i just thought of you today, that i should ask you about this kind of hacking, because i don't know more than that was written in teh document you uploaded to yahoo groups, and you seem to know much more about it.... so i'd appreciate if you could help with that..
what i don't know: how do i know which instances of (say) 71 00 00 80 am i allowed to replace. i can see i shouldn't replace all of them. just some of them.
and, what other kinds of strings can be applied apart from 29 00 00 80.. i can see you used 28 00 00 80 here..
so what is the rule here, how do i find out about these two issues?!

and sorry, but it isnt clear enough to me where i should hexedit netfront 3.3. "at all the cellcore values" what does this mean, what are the exact strings? you mean the strings that correspond to the string "cellcore.dll" itself? or...?

please, this is very important that we know about these details. i'm planning to finish my complete introduction to hacking. and i need to know every trick that is available and can be useful

thanks!

I am really interested in getting this working. Could you please provide more detailed instructions and/or post a pre-edited exe somewhere?

rgisondi,
ive run it, but i dont see the improvement over NF 3.2 (you reported 3.2 will not load http pages). maybe i still don't understand your hack fully. i'm almost sure i don't, because i could not run NF 3.3 without using a dummy cellcore.dll (it is just a renamed doclist.dll )

...mmm, your zip is missing the J720 cellcore... can you correct this problem?
oh and the S3 cellcore looks like it's just one of the aygshells, however if it works i don't mind

hey, so i found the correct strings? i am sooo clever

still, i would appreciate if you could upload the exe somewhere. if you don't know where, you could send it to my email: contactchan (at) freemail.hu, and i can post it on my site. thanks again

oh and a last question, does NF 3.3 actually load http pages for you?

it wont work on J720, i'm waiting for your cellcore.dll, or if you can tell me how to change CPU version on the sig3 cellcore.dll, that would help even more because i sometimes run into this problem (wrong CPU version)!

it works fine on sigmarion 3...

any idea how could i disable the option about the font type? i want pages to display their own fonts... it is nice that you can select a font for everything but i don't want this.

a few screenshots to show new features in NF (only some, there are a lot more )and others that are over the 100k limit , can be downloaded in a zip

Oh my gosh, this would be perfect! Netfront is an excellent browser for the Zaurus, so this is just brilliant news. Please keep us informed as to how you get on!

$30 certainly seems a reasonable price, but is NetFront an actual increase in speed over the J 720's own PIE/fxBrowser?

I don't really care about SSL and other security matters as much as I care about speeding up the glacial pace of present browsing.

But I speak the obvious, and to the choir .

Netfront is a big improovement for J720 and other HPC2000 arm machine because they have IE 4.01 that does not allow to view many actual contents on the web.

Any way I have corrected the upload in the file section of the Yahoo group.

So cmonex give a try with it on J720. The Hack is simple.

Find the sting that are related with the cellcore function with the help of peinfo and the with an hex editor replace them two times with 28000080.

That's all.

did you never hear of NF 3.0 working on hpc's?
3.3 is the newest version though.

ok my first impressions on the J720... (it just needed the 7.5 k aygshell.dll renamed cellcore.dll)
i think its certainly not loading pages faster than 3.0 when it is set to full browsing mode, maybe slower... but the new options are interesting, and i hope it has better rendering capabilities. don't know yet, i tried only a few pages so far.
about loading speed again, there're special options for that.. text mode seems quite fast! not sure what rapid rendering means, i'll test that.
it is the demo, so i don't know if java has improved or not (it is already damn good in version 3.0), and i can open only two tabs of course as it's the demo
you will still need winwatch to access the lower parts of the menus.
i should try it from CF too, since i heard it launches fine and fast from storage cards unlike version 3.0.
ohh and the context menu accessible on webpages is much faster and more comfortable than with 3.0! finally!

i'll tell about my impressions on the sig3 and MP900C as well, later.

some screenshots of J720 running NF 3.3:
