Hi cmonex,

I am quite fluent in windows XP and right down the line. Started with Windows 1.0 and still have it... along with every other version released since then. My issue isn't one of xp pro machines not being enabled for RDP but rather the fact that I just can't connect to anyone that is through any of the airpanel units. I connect to these same xp pro machines day in and day out from other xp pro and 2003 systems. While I can ping the xp pro systems from the airpanels... for some silly reason I just can't rdp to them. Wasn't sure if there was something unique to the airpanel or .net 4.1 that I was over looking... in fact... I used to connect rdp to these same xp pro system via my samsung pda phone running wm2003. Talk about a teeny weeny display!

So with RDP enabled, users enabled and proper ports being accessed... I still can't make the connection with the airpanels using .net 4.1. There is a 4.2 by the way... but not for the airpanel. Came across someone in a forum the other day who indicated they had .net 4.6 on their airpanel... but I'm certain it was either a typo or a misunderstanding.

Now that I have been turned on to the redgear project I am definitely going to give that a try as it relates to running apps on the 4.1. In fact.. you may have seen my posts in there already.

Windows 1.0, huh? Install PocketDOS on your Airpanel and run it there.

mhm, as for RDP, strange, possibly your RDP executables are buggy in the rom. try getting the RDP update for sigmarion 3, it's a japanese CAB, but you can then overwrite it with an english RDP exe or the RDP MUI (also posted). that is for cenet 4.1 and works fine.

what has 4.2 then? some viewsonic (or whatever other similar devices exist like neta 980) version? you know, it would be nice updating 4.1 image to 4.2 if that works then you can have a rom with as good app compatibility as my 900c custom rom.

I don't believe that either FutureCom or ViewSonic ever created a CE 4.2 .net ROM image for this device.

Sadly CE Geek is correct. Viewsonic never ported the cenet 4.2 to the airpanel. It was available for other devices... but not any Viewsonic device that I'm aware of.

Regarding the RDP executables... The 4.1 I am running is what came down from the viewsonic site. Have to believe others would be having this issue as well if the executables were buggy in the rom. And I have 3 units doing the same thing. Again... this was my primary inspiration for getting these airpanel's... anything else above that is icing on the cake.. but sure would like to get this working. Still looking for someone else that has actually used their airpanel in an rdp connection with xp pro.

The v210 was the only one IIRC to come with 4.2.

If anyone is interested in hacking the airpanel v100 (or any of the other models), the ASULUG has started a wiki with some information we have found and instructions on how to get started. We are also consolidating all important information from this thread for future reference. So far, we've found a boot prompt mode where we can upload new images and do other basic configuration commands. Any help from the community would be appreciated and hopefully we can get this thing open to custom uses.

Look forward to working with you in the future.

Any plans to do any tinkering with the CE 3.0 version of the Airpanel 100, Cory? (It's basically the same as the ViewPad 100, running a barebones core CE 3 OS rather than H/PC 2000.)

At the moment, I don't have one, one of the other guys on the ASULUG has it, but i'm looking at getting an airpanel (V110 or possibly 110 or 150) if this has any potential at working. We'd be glad to help out with any other versions of similar hardware. Most of the Airpanels have close hardware, along with the NETA 980, which is a twin to the V100. The software differences shouldn't matter too much. We'd also appreciate any additional information that other people/hardware can give us.

So basically, the answer to your question is yes, if you're willing to take part and help in this endeavour. You can read up on what we've accomplished/learned so far at the link I gave above.

Nate The Great:

Glad to see someone has put together a bootloader. I tried to go to your link for the bootloader, but it is no longer valid, http://rapidshare.com/files/175365311/boot.bin_.NET.zip.html.

Could you met me know how to get a copy please and thanks!!. I got one airpanel with 3.0 and would like to migrate to 4.1. So the steps are:

1. Format CF to FAT16 with bootloader
2. Format CF to FAT 16 with files eboot.nb0, eboot.bin and nk.bin from Viewsonic website.

Is that correct? Please advise and thanks!

Do you have a copy of the the firmwares and instructions for the airpanel 100, both 4.1 and 3.0. If so, could you please send. Thanks!

No, just use the binary to reflash bootloader. Then use system image from Viewsonic web site
See original guide.
