| In a month and a half's time HPC:Factor, as the community knows it, will be four years old. Over the past four years the site has grown considerably, and now enjoys a vibrant forum community supporting the efforts of everyone within the H/PC Community.
While there have been occasional outages, mainly caused by hurricanes. HPC:Factor has never formally been taken off-line for maintenance. The owners have decided that four years is long enough, and that we wish to deal with one or two issues with some of the critical areas of the site before they become problems. As a consequence we are currently undergoing the process of organising downtime periods which will require HPC:Factor to be completely off-line.
It likely at this point that there will be more than one outage period, and we will do our best to provide notification to the community beforehand as we will be transitioning over to a new server as part of the maintenance cycle.

We will try and give at least a couple of hours notice if possible, however things largely depend on Admin / Mod availability and we're fighting considerable time-zone differences; so alas we cannot make any solid promises on that front. |

As Chris said, we are organizing everything now to figure out just how much downtime we will incur. Bottom line is yes, at some point, we will be "hard down". We are trying to determine how long that will be.
To be honest, the to-do list on this is about 40 steps that have to happen in a particular order - that is how massive this project is going to be.

I need to get back to you all with something concrete on this, I need to have a chat with Insurgent first. Give me a while. |

| How about arranging for the mail server to email us all 24 hours in advance?
That would be, 24 hours in advance of the furthest timezone. Although, since the server does know our timezones, perhaps it could be configured to send out emails in order.
Anyways, I am still looking for an alternative mailing list/message board service for while the forum is down, and possibly before. If anyone has any good, solid suggestions for me, send a PM my way. |

| The board wont be down for that long. No one has even commented on the dribs and drabs of things being moved about so far! I'm not talking about weeks here. |

Mmm, before HPC Factor, a lot of us used to hang pocketpcmag.com. Well a few of us still do
Also there's the HPC newsgroup (forgot the address now ) and the Yahoo HPC group (mailing list ). |

| I was thinking something that I can control. As in, a forum only for the development. PM me anything further, I don't want to hijack this thread. |
