We hit a tiny licensing snag... I'm rewriting it to work another way. The on-device installer is ready and working though, and so is the compact flash based installer.

Licensing problem? Whoops.

Where can we find more information on the on-device installer?

All installers are back working now...

The licensing issue was with a utility called RCMD, that was freeware but not GPL'ed. Using an alternative now which works fine. The on-device installer is part of this one, and will be made available seperatly at release time.

And when is the expected release time?

By the way, congratulations on making the installer everyone has been hoping for.

To find out what the device name is, type dmesg in a terminal, and decrypt the last few lines. They might look something like this:

SCSI device sda: 1000944 512-byte hdwr sectors (512 MB)
sda: Write Protect is off
sda: Mode Sense: 02 00 00 00
sda: assuming drive cache: write through
SCSI device sda: 1000944 512-byte hdwr sectors (512 MB)
sda: Write Protect is off
sda: Mode Sense: 02 00 00 00
sda: assuming drive cache: write through
sda: sda1

That basically means it is sda.

Lol, some little things I don't know. Thanks for that, it will make troubleshooting a good bit easier.

Also, if you want to know about free space and stuff, you can type df in a terminal.

Yeah, knew that one.

I should probably look up or create a nifty command tutorial.

Cmonex! Stop scaring off all the freaking customers! And then trying to convert them to the zaurus platform, no less! And Xfree86 has been around for way longer than H/PC's, it has always looked awkward and unprofessional. (Huh?) Moving on!

Though this might make it worse...

The only tricky part here is finding out what device knoppix sees your cf card as. Over here, it is /dev/sdb. For others, it is /dev/sdb. It could be something else.

Anyways, try opening a console, become root (if you are not already) with the su command, and type the following:

cfdisk /dev/sda (or whatever the device is)

Once in there, you will see the *hopefully* similar interface to the dos fdisk, and you can then make your partitions. Using this same method, you can then run:

mount /dev/sda2 (the linux partition should be the second one, again your device might be sdb, sdc...)

Unbzip2 all your files over there using the instructions on the 720degrees site.

Have fun, and ignore cmonex on all future 720degrees issues. Just kidding!

Gameboy emulators? Linux has plenty, look around. I know there was something else for CE, but forgot.

Ooo looks like a head ache..

I couldn't install linux on my tungsten E2 Palm handheld so im not going to try with a jornada. lol but i kindof agree with Cmonex.. Linux is hard to use.. its a head ache and buggy wait till Jlime auto installer..

Ah, when it comes to Linux, never listen to what Cmonex says. She simply does not know what she is talking about.

But yes, if this looks challenging to you, wait for the installer.

Yes, and now you truly use Linux on your 720! Before you were just used to that bubbly Zaurus junk.
