I have a Dell Axim x5 and an HP 320LX. I am currious if there is a way I can sync them both on my Windows XP computer. Is this possible for me to do this?

Alas as the 320 is a CE 1 device I'm afraid that the news is you cannot sync both simultaniously. With the CE2 ROM update there wouldn't be a problem. However CE1 isn't supported by ActiveSync (the Axim, and anything running CE2.0 and higher's sync client). Because both need to spool the same resources generally it's not a good idea to try and run both.

Now, having said that I'm basing my experiences on tests done against two serial devices and not a serial and a USB device. Now, I still don't think it'll behave properly but... If you install AcitveSync 3.7.1 first and then H/PC Explorer 1.1 (both available from Sync Software in the navigation above) you may have a chance.

With a CE 1 device you will need to follow our connection guide which can be found here:

Ok thanks
Im not going to do those steps at the moment because this this is getting reformated soon. However, I do have an old windows 98 PC that I used to use. I just cant get active sync 3.7 off of it . Now, Is this completly compatible with Windows 98?
Also im thinking of other ways to get around this. I do have an old 16 MB CF card that I could use to get files on to it. Would I need to format the .txt files in order for it to work on the H/PC? Or can I just put the files on the CF card, Put it on the H/PC and be ready to use it?
Also another way im thinking would be if I were to put the files on my dell axim and beam the files over to the H/PC?
Would any of these things work?
Thanks for helping out a n00b

If you're going to be formatting your PC soon, then I'd suggest that this is the ideal time to actually experiment without running the risk of upsetting your new install.
If 3.7.1 won't uninstall, then reinstall it and it will rewrite the removal routines. Yes it is compatible with 98 and 98SE although you may want to be sure you are patched up to date, especially Dial-up networking:
http://www.hpcfactor.com/support/patching/win98/

A CF would work. If transferring Word Documents over you would need to save them as RTF or TXT MS Pocket Word 1 cannot read .DOC's.
Theoretically the IrDA transfer should work, although I've never tested it against PPC2003. Pocket PC is a dirty word around here as you might imagine

I followed the CE 1/XP connectivity guide on this site, but my 320LX Palmtop PC kept disconnecting from the host PC every minute or so; it drops out so quickly that it is literally useless even bothering!

When I get the money, I'll just buy myself a Windows 95 machine and save myself the hassle...

Or you could upgrade it to WinCE 2.0 which works with ActiveSync 3.8 - same as the PPC. There are some ROMs in hpcBay still.

If the connection is dropping it then it could mean a hardware problem in the pc, serial cable or the H/PC

There is not necessarily something wrong with the computer or H/PC- someone on this site (in the support section if I remember correctly) I read that someone was trying to connect a WinCE 1 Handheld PC to a Win2k machine and was experiencing the same problems!

And I can't upgrade my 320LX- not only am I building a collection of the best Handheld PCs from each generation of Windows CE (with the 320LX Palmtop PC being the best CE1 Handheld PC), but it runs Windows CE 1.0, where it all began!

Who knows, maybe someday it will be a collector's item and/or worth some money (not that I could bring myself to sell it!)...

Besides, I can't upgrade my 320LX to Windows WinCE 2- not only am I collecting the best Handheld PC from each generation of Windows CE (with the 320LX being the best WinCE 1 Handheld PC that was ever available), but it runs Windows CE 1.0, where it all began... It's a collector's item!

And who knows, maybe someday it will be worth some money (not that I could bring myself to sell it!)...

Do a firewall, antivirus, serial port app kill-off and try it - I have never had problems with it and I wrote the support document.

wondering what ce 1.0 could be like... much different from ce 2.0?

Mmm, at least for me, it goes like follows:
HPC2: 620/660lx

HPC Pro: J690

HPC 2000: J720 / Intermec 6651

CE.Net: no comments, haven't seen a device with it yet. (PB doesn't count )

So you see, i'm totally on the HP side of things.

hehe let me give my opinion.. i never used any CE 1 device but 320LX is definitely the best and then CE 2... not much experience again, but 660LX is a contender at least i know what a 360LX is like and it's cool (as cool as a CE2 device can be). i'll leave hpc pro alone, no real idea... but it won't be the 690 for me with its SH3. HPC2000: jornada 728 and intermec 6651 yeah it's so obvious

Most people agree that until they abandoned the Handheld PC, Hewlett Packard were by far the leader, releasing Handheld PCs that well and truely put the competition to shame!

Anyway, so far my list is as follows:
* Hewlett Packard 320LX Palmtop PC; Windows CE 1.0 (purchased WAAAY back when they were first released!)
* Hewlett Packard 660LX Palmtop PC; Windows CE 2.0
* Hewlett Packard Jornada 690; Windows CE 2.11 ("Handheld PC Professional"

* Hewlett Packard Jornada 728; Windows CE 3.0 ("Handheld PC 2000"

That's a pretty big list and with my small income will take me a long time to complete, but I'll get there; eventually I want to have the leading device from EVERY generation and type of Windows CE, including Pocket PCs, Auto PCs and others...

@ Cmonex,
Windows CE 2.0 was a BIG, BIG improvement on Windows CE 1.0 (especially in the best CE2 devices, such as the 660LX Palmtop PC)!
