I'm lookin' at picking up a 6651 to replace my 720, and I really like it and I'm essentially convinced. I've been thinking of putting it in my car (with a 20-40GB portable HD) and using it to play movies/music and stuff, I just wanted to know if HPC2000 can handle that much space.

If this should be in the hardware half of the forum...go head and put it there...

i think it will have 2 limits
the ide barrier, which is set around 32GiB and the FAT barrier, which is about 128GiB
so, 20 gig HDD will be fine, although quite slow (~600kbps), which should be enough for music, but maybe not for video. For the 40GB one, you'll need to test to see if the machine supports it

Sweet. 600kbps is a bit slow, but I'll likely recompress any videos I put on it so they'll be less than 600kbps on the video/audio bitrates, if not I'll just suffer the consequences.

lol, yes you need to take it in account, as it's the FAT32 limit, i didn't typed the "32" in FAT32, but that's the max partitition size in FAT32.

FYI: FAT16 partition limit size is set on 4GiB

Yeah I'm not going to go for a huge HD size. I plan on using the HD in the car for music/videos in the car. I'm either going to use a portable HD that runs off USB or just a 3.5" HD on a USB adapter. Since the car is such a harsh enviroment I'll only use 20 or so GB drives, so if they die, it wouldn't be a huge loss.

The 32gb fat32 limit is an artificial 2k/xp limit. I'll try my 6651 on a 116gb fat32 partition and see what happens. Give me a day or so.

That'd be sweet if you could see how well that works.
