Just to cover the basics, when you preformed a hard reset you removed both batteries right?

Yep, both batteries out, over night no go.

As for the reflashing that I tried, I copied the CE.NET to a CF and rebooted the machine(with batteries out as specified in the CE.NET instlal guide).

Always, the same story: NEC splash screen, then black screen with backlight on. Nothing else ever...

From the CE.NET - SABOOT.NB0 we get things like:
Downloading via NE2000 ethernet.
Found BIN on CF card.
Booting from card
Found XIP.BIN on CF card.
Copy OS from PCMCIA to flash
Copy OS from CF to flash

These imply that the bootloader can handle reflashing the device...if only I knew how to get the bootloader into command mode...

Any ideas? Serial port? Magic keys?

Anyone have a serial cable and want to try this?
i dumprom'd the SABOOT.NB0 from the CE.NET upgrade...this produced an nk.exe
i then loaded nk.exe into IDA-pro (how much does that cost cause i love it)
guess what i found?

"Press the Esc key at the hyperterminal window to break into the loader menu"
and the menu
"1- update the loader, 2- update the os, 3- launch os"

so my guess is that i can load from the CF using the serial port to control the bootloader
my only fear? that the bootloader contained in the CE.NET upgrade is much newer than the original MP900 loader...ie the one already on the box may not support these features...

anyone have a serial cable and MP900?

if so and you wanna try...

set your terminal to 38400,8,n,1
reset your MP900 while pressing the esc key (first on your pc, then if that fails on the MP900)

do we get a menu?

Anyone want to sell their serial cable?

Anyone have a multimeter so we can determine the pinouts for the cable? I could make one...

Seems NEC discontinued this cable and I cant find one online anywhere.

The serial cable was an optional item with the 900/900C. It didn't come with the units. I doubt very much anyone has one at all....but you can find it easy enough on the internet, around $50...do a search for OP-MP9-LINKSER

Unfortunately you cant find it on the net...

At least after several hours I could not.

What you can find is a whole bunch of sites that say that have it but once you corner them they say it's out of stock.

I will buy anyones cable.

I will pay someone to find me a place where I can order the connector for that cable.

I'm about to put a $50 bid into Amazon's prebuy...
